Bayern Munich vs. Lazio Prediction and Pick

The Feb. 14 game between Lazio and Bayern Munich produced what was arguably the biggest first-leg shock in the Round of 16, as Lazio picked up a surprise victory over the German champions in Rome. Lazio striker Ciro Immobile scored the only goal of the game from the penalty spot, giving the Italians the narrowest of leads as they head into Bavaria this week.

As far as injuries go for this Bayern Munich vs. Lazio match on Tuesday, Bayern will be missing right-back Bouna Sarr. The Senegalese defender has been out of the lineup since December with a cruciate ligament tear. Forward Kingsley Coman and defender Tarek Buchmann have also been long-term absences for the German powerhouse, and Bayern will need to come back from its 1-0 deficit without them.

Lazio has a pair of injury concerns in defensive midfielder Nicolo Rovella and Spanish right-back Patric, both of whom have been missing for several weeks.

So far, Lazio has had a disappointing season in Serie A. The team is in ninth place, having lost its last two matches against Fiorentina and AC Milan. However, its European season has been very successful so far. Lazio placed second in the Champions League’s Group E, picking up 10 points against Feyenoord, Celtic, and eventual group-winner Atletico Madrid.

Lazio’s first-leg victory over Bayern was a continuation of its impressive showing in the Champions League, as the home team took a well-deserved 1-0 victory out of a relatively even game. Lazio is looking to reach the quarterfinals of this competition for the first time since 1999-00. At some level, the team might be disappointed that it only enjoys a one-goal lead, particularly since it had a man-advantage for the final 20 minutes of the first match against Bayern.

Looking to outscore Lazio by at least two goals to turn this matchup around on Tuesday, coach Thomas Tuchel’s Bayern side also risks missing out on the German title for the first time in more than a decade. Bayern currently trails coach Xabi Alonso’s superb Bayer Leverkusen team by 10 points in the standings. At this point, the Munich club might consider the Champions League to offer its best shot at a trophy this season, since it has already missed out on Germany’s DFB-Pokal.

Bayern certainly has every chance to come back and win its matchup against Lazio. The Munich team has more than enough offensive power to cause some damage on Tuesday with a roster that includes players such as midfielders Leroy Sane and Jamal Musiala. Meanwhile, star forward Harry Kane has shone brightly in his first Bundesliga season with 27 goals in 24 league games.

I expect that Bayern, backed by an enthusiastic home crowd, will come out very strong on Tuesday. If the home team gets Kane going early, it could be a tough night for Lazio. Bayern is one of the highest-scoring clubs in Europe’s top five leagues, and I don’t see Lazio keeping its opponent at bay a second time.

The Pick: Over 2.5 Goals (-182)

Real Madrid vs. RB Leipzig Odds and Spread – Champions League Betting Lines 3/6

3-Way handicap: Real Madrid -175 | Draw +350 | RB Leipzig +400

Draw no Bet: Real Madrid -450 | RB Leipzig +280

Over/Under Goals: Over 2.5 -200 | Under 2.5 +150

Double Chance: Real Madrid or Draw -600 | Real Madrid or RB Leipzig -500 | Draw or RB Leipzig +140

1st Goal: Real Madrid -211 | No Goal +1400 | RB Leipzig +180

Real Madrid vs. RB Leipzig Prediction and Pick

The second game featured in our Champions League prop bets today is Leg 2 of the Round of 16 matchup between 14-time European champions Real Madrid and 2019-20 semifinalist RB Leipzig. Three weeks ago at Leipzig’s Red Bull Arena, Real came away with a narrow 1-0 win, thanks to a goal from winger Brahim Diaz.

The Spaniards are having an excellent season, even by their high standards, and are seven points ahead of La Liga’s second-place team, Girona. Manager Carlo Ancelotti’s team hasn’t lost a La Liga game since falling to city rival Atletico all the way back in September.

The Madrid team is among the favorites to win this year’s Champions League competition, and given the players on Real’s roster, it’s easy to see why. Real Madrid midfielder Jude Bellingham, one of the world’s very best players, has already taken La Liga by storm with 16 goals in 22 games this season.

Bellingham is by no means the only playmaker on this Real Madrid team, however. He stars along with teammates such as winger Vinicius Junior and ageless midfielder Luka Modric, who remains a world-class player at age 38.

Playing a road game at Madrid’s Santiago Bernabeu Stadium is certainly a tough task for any team, and Leipzig has its work cut out for it here. The Germans are going through an underwhelming season themselves, as Leipzig is currently fifth in the Bundesliga, having lost four of its last eight games.

Nevertheless, this team is undeniably entertaining, and its games tend to feature goals at both ends. The 24 Bundesliga games involving Leipzig this year have produced a total of 84 goals -- an average of exactly 3.5 per game.

This is a team that rarely fails to score, and I expect the trend to continue here. This will more than likely be a losing effort for Leipzig against one of Europe’s true powerhouses, but expect players such as Leipzig strikers Lois Openda and Benjamin Sesko to cause problems for the Galacticos at times in this one.

As far as Champions League betting tips, going with Real Madrid to win and both teams to score seems like a good pick to me.

The Pick: Real Madrid to win and both teams to score (+180)

Manchester City vs. FC Copenhagen Odds and Spread – Champions League Betting Lines 3/6

Manchester City vs. FC Copenhagen Prediction and Pick

The final game in our Round of 16 Champions League parlay for this week is Wednesday’s match between last year’s Champions League winner, Manchester City, and the Danish champion, FC Copenhagen.

City came away from the Danish capital with a 3-1 victory in the first leg of this matchup on Feb. 13 and is heavily favored to reach the quarterfinals by dispatching Copenhagen at home on Wednesday. Manchester is trying to secure another treble after doing it last year with championships in Champions League, the English Premier League, and FA Cup.

Few expert observers see much hope for Copenhagen on Wednesday, particularly given the history of matches between these two clubs. That’s because the Danes have not beaten Manchester City in any of their five previous meetings.

The Citizens are excelling in the Premier League at the moment -- having won nine of their last ten, including Sunday’s 3-1 win over Manchester United. As a result, Manchester City has moved to within one point of league-leading Liverpool.

In comparing the Manchester City and FC Copenhagen lineups for Wednesday, it’s fair to say that the home team is the one with all the scoring talent.

Manchester City striker Erling Haaland continues to lead the way on offense. The Norwegian star now has 28 goals in 29 games across all competitions this season. However, he is not the only goal-scoring threat on this team, since Phil Foden has also been red-hot of late.

On the other hand, FC Copenhagen has been going through a somewhat disappointing season. Copenhagen is third in the Danish Superliga and has been eliminated from the Danish Cup. By the time this team resumes its Superliga season on Sunday against Lyngby, it is all but certain that it will have been eliminated from Champions League for yet another year, albeit at the hands of what is arguably Europe’s best team.

City is one of the safest picks in soccer betting just now, and for this match on Wednesday, the question is likely to be just how many goals Manchester will score. Once manager Pep Guardiola’s men get going, they are a nearly impossible to stop, and they could end up scoring as many times as they want in the second leg of this Champions League matchup.

Expect more than a few goals for the home crowd to enjoy before Manchester City turns its attention to the quarterfinals.

The Pick: Manchester City -2 (+105)
