Just when it appeared that it was all over for the Florida Panthers – as if their playoff hopes were down to a sliver -- the Cats prevailed in Game 3 on Thursday. With the closing minutes winding down and Florida about to fall into a 3-0 Stanley Cup Final series deficit, forward  Matthew Tkachuk found the back of the net to tie the score and force OT. The Panthers were able to capitalize in the overtime and extend this series for at least another game. Trailing the series 2-1, the Panthers have a huge boost of momentum and new life as they enter Game 4 on Saturday. They will look to tie the series 2-2 before heading to Vegas on Tuesday night. The Florida Panthers were minutes away from trailing the Stanley Cup Final series 3-0 and giving Vegas a chance to close them out on Saturday night. However, forward Matthew Tkachuk was able to squeak in the game-tying goal and send the game into overtime. After being stunned in regulation’s final minutes, the Golden Knights came out aggressively in OT, but the Panthers were able to weather the storm, and Carter Verhaeghe was able to find the back of the net. Verhaeghe’s goal gave the Panthers both a win and new life. Although the Panthers were able to take care of business at home on Thursday, they needed some luck to do it. The Golden Knights are still a superior and much more talented team. Vegas will take back control of this series on Saturday night.

Vegas forward Jonathan Marchessault was slowed down in Game 3 on Thursday night, and didn’t get his second shot on goal until overtime. Despite a low-shooting night, Marchessault was still able to find the back of the net – scoring on a power play in the second period. The Panthers were able to slow Marchessault down a bit in Game 3, but I don’t expect them to succeed two games in a row. If Marchessault was able to find the back of the net on Thursday with just one true shot on goal, then I expect him to continue his goal-scoring streak and find it the net again on Saturday night.

Mark Stone-Goals

Winger Mark Stone has been having success in this Stanley Cup Final, having scored his second goal of the series on Thursday night. With 13 shots on goal through the first three games, Stone has been very aggressive in the offensive zone. His efforts have benefited the Golden Knights offense a ton. With Vegas now feeling a slight momentum shift after Florida’s overtime win, it’s all-hands-on-deck in Game 3. The Golden Knights want a win on Saturday so they can close this series out at home on Tuesday night. Look for Stone to stay aggressive and find the back of the net in Game 3.

The Florida Panthers were finally able to slow this Vegas Golden Knights’ offense down in Game 3, holding Vegas to just two goals. With this series now 2-1, and the Panthers having life and momentum, I expect the same aggressive Golden Knights team that we saw in the third period of Game 1 and for all three periods of Game 2 to return to the ice on Saturday night. While seven goals might be a stretch, four goals seems very doable for this high-powered offense that doesn’t want give away any more momentum before heading back to Vegas for Game 5 on Tuesday night.
