Best NHL Player Prop Bets Today: Thursday, March 16 Matthew Tkachuk The Florida Panthers have a pretty balanced offense this season. Two of their scoring anchors have been center Carter Verhaeghe with 32 goals and winger Matthew Tkachuk with 30 goals and 87 points. The two will thrive against an inferior Montreal Canadiens defense at home on Thursday night, and both are poised to have big games. Tkachuk has been very active offensively over the past two games -- scoring on two of his nine shots against Winnipeg the night after firing seven shots at the Chicago Blackhawks. Tkachuk has had six or more shots on goal in five of his last eight games. Expect an aggressive effort from him against the Canadiens, whose 33.88 shots allowed per game is the NHL’s fifth-highest total.

The Pick: Matthew Tkachuk over 4.5 shots on goal (+135)
Patrick Kane This is starting to become my favorite NHL prop bet, because it’s pretty much automatic. Patrick Kane’s arrival in New York has brought the sense that these Rangers could finally return to the Stanley Cup glory they haven’t enjoyed since 1994. Kane has scored three goals and five points in six games as a Ranger. He has also had at least three shots on goal in five of those six games. Kane and the Rangers face a good Pittsburgh team on Thursday night, but defense is not the Penguins’ strength. Only five NHL teams allow more shots on goal per game than the Pens, who average 33.48. The juice is high on this one -- but rightfully so -- since this prop bet is becoming nearly automatic.

The Pick: Patrick Kane over 2.5 shots on goal (-175)
Nathan MacKinnon Center Nathan MacKinnon has been phenomenal for the Colorado Avalanche this season. He leads his team in scoring with 82 points, and his 29 goals rank second on the team behind his winger Mikko Rantanen’s 44. All that scoring is important, since the Avalanche might have to use Jonas Johansson in goal on Thursday night. Johansson dressed as Alexandar Georgiev’s backup on Wednesday, and Georgiev is due for a night off. Called up from the AHL earlier this month, Johansson has not played in the NHL since December and appeared in just one game this season. Going with a relatively untested netminder at Ottawa will force Colorado’s offense to be on its A-game. Luckily for the Avs, MacKinnon has been on his A-game of late. He had a five-game goal-scoring streak snapped in Colorado’s shootout win at Toronto on Wednesday, but I like him to begin a new streak by scoring in this one.

The Pick: Nathan MacKinnon anytime goalscorer (-120)
Adrian Kempe The Los Angeles Kings will have an easy matchup on Thursday night when they face the cellar-dwelling Columbus Blue Jackets. Wingman Adrian Kempe, who’s having a great March, is poised to enjoy another big game against the Blue Jackets. With at least four shots on goal in four of his last six games, Kempe will take advantage of an inferior Columbus defense that gives up 35.08 shots per game –- the third-most allowed in the NHL.

The Pick: Adrian Kempe over 3.5 shots on goal (+100)
