Best NHL Bets Tonight: Odds, Picks and Predictions for Wednesday, April 5th

Lightning vs Rangers Odds, Spread, Moneyline, Over/Under - NHL Betting Lines 4/5
Moneyline: Tampa Bay Lightning (+100), New York Rangers (-118)
Spread: Tampa Bay Lightning +1.5 (-250), New York Rangers -1.5 (+190)
Total: Over/Under 5.5 goals
Lightning vs Rangers Prediction and Pick When the Tampa Bay Lightning and the New York Rangers square off for the third time this season on Wednesday night, it will be a crucial game for two teams pushing to finish second in their respective divisions. The season series so far has been a split. The Rangers won the first matchup 3-1 on opening night at home, but the Lightning prevailed 2-1 in an OT shootout on Dec. 29 at Tampa. Tonight’s starting goaltenders, Igor Shesterkin of the Rangers and Andrei Vasilevskiy of the Lightning, played in both matchups. Shesterkin has dominated Tampa Bay this season, allowing only two goals in regulation time. Had his teammates given him more help offensively back in December, that game would not have gone to a shootout.

With Patrick Kane now on their roster, the Rangers have the offensive spark they desperately needed earlier in the season. After a dominant March that ended with two losses, the Rangers bounced back on Sunday and opened April with a 5-2 win at Washington. Look for the Rangers to take care of business tonight at Madison Square Garden with Shesterkin providing another dominant performance. This time around, the Rangers offense will thrive -- performing more like what we saw on opening night against Vasilevskiy.

The Pick: New York Rangers ML (-118)

Flames vs Jets Odds, Spread, Moneyline, Over/Under - NHL Betting Lines 4/5 Moneyline: Calgary Flames (+110), Winnipeg Jets (-134)
Spread: Calgary Flames -1.5 (-225), Winnipeg Jets +1.5 (+175)
Total: Over/Under 6.5 goals
Flames vs Jets Prediction and Pick Both the Flames and Jets are treating Wednesday night’s matchup like it's a Game 7, must-win scenario. Given the current Western Conference standings, they are right to do so. Host Winnipeg is holding the last Western wild-card playoff spot with 89 points. Visiting Calgary sits one spot out of the wild-card race at 87 points. So, it really will feel like a winner-takes-all situation at the Canada Life Centre.

Calgary and Winnipeg have split their season series thus far, but the Jets will show why they are the better team on Wednesday night. The Flames are playing the second of back-to-back games after suffering an embarrassing home loss to the Blackhawks on Tuesday. If they miss the playoffs, their failure to beat Chicago will be a major reason. Calgary also had a scare one game earlier when it was on the ropes against an inferior Anaheim Ducks team before rallying two win with two third-period goals. The Jets have been thriving of late and are performing like a playoff team. They will handle these Flames, who are starting to fall apart.

The Pick: Winnipeg Jets ML (-134)

Oilers vs Ducks Odds, Spread, Moneyline, Over/Under - NHL Betting Lines 4/5Moneyline: Edmonton Oilers (-334) Anaheim Ducks (+250)
Spread: Edmonton Oilers -1.5 (-143), Anaheim Ducks +1.5 (+110)
Total: Over/Under 7.5 goals
Oilers vs Ducks Prediction and Pick The Edmonton Oilers, who have already clinched their playoff berth, suddenly have an opportunity to steal the Pacific Division away from Vegas after the Golden Knights’ 3-2 OT loss at Nashville on Tuesday. The Oilers can close two within one point of Vegas tonight by beating a cellar-dwelling Anaheim Ducks team that they just dismantled in a 6-0 rout on Saturday night in Edmonton.

Don’t overthink this one. While the Ducks rebounded from that 6-0 loss by fighting tooth-and-nail with the Flames on Sunday, they will not be competitive in this one. Edmonton will be the better team for the entire 60 minutes. The Oilers have the best offense in hockey, while the Ducks have the worst defense in hockey. The Oilers on the puck line is the play.

The Pick: Edmonton Oilers -1.5 (-143)
