When do men’s college basketball rankings come out?
How do Zach Edey’s Purdue, RJ Davis’s UNC, and Dalton Knecht’s Tennessee teams stack up in the national rankings? Here is everything you need to know about when rankings for men’s college basketball come out.
The AP NCAAB rankings are a handy tool that can be used to keep track of the best college basketball teams throughout the regular season.
However, AP rankings do NOT determine the NCAA champion. Unlike college football, these rankings also don’t dictate which teams earn the right to play for the national championship at the end of the season. In any case, the rankings are an important bellwether for fans to track how well their favorite teams are doing.
What Are the Rankings for Men’s College Basketball?
Men’s college basketball rankings provide a sense of the best teams at any given moment (which, according to the Associated Press, means each Monday throughout the season). These rankings have no bearing on seedings for the NCAA Tournament (also known as “March Madness”).
The NCAA D1 men’s basketball committee picks the field of 68 teams for March Madness. During the NCAA Tournament, a team ranked No. 1 in the AP poll throughout the regular season could still fall to a No. 16 seed in the first round.
Men’s College Basketball Rankings
The Associated Press has determined the primary CBB rankings since 1948. The initial polls featured 20 teams before the number was expanded to 25 in 1989.
In January, the AP listed the top 25 schools of all time to celebrate the 75th Anniversary of its poll. Here are the all-time top five teams:
- Kentucky
- North Carolina
- Duke
- Kansas
- UCLA
What Time do Men’s Basketball Rankings Come Out?
The AP men’s college basketball rankings come out every Monday during the season at around 1 p.m. ET.
