The Final Four of March Madness has arrived, and with none of the four No. 1 seed teams remaining, the competition is wide open for anyone to win. First up, I’ve got the FAU vs San Diego State game, where offense meets defense for a spot in the National Championship game. Let’s dive into the NCAAB free picks and parlays ahead of Saturday’s game.

The Florida Atlantic Owls are the lowest seed to make it to the Final Four of this year’s NCAA basketball tournament after completing the upset once again to take down Kansas State in the Elite Eight round.

The Owls are set to play against the San Diego State Aztecs, whose stubborn defensive unit has propelled them to the Final Four by applying intense pressure and denying their opponents any easy opportunities.

The Owls, seeded at No. 9, are among the few teams to reach the Final Four with such a low ranking. The record for the lowest seed to make it this far is held by an 11-seed, which has occurred five times. Throughout the tournament's history, only eight teams have managed to reach the semi-finals with a seed lower than eight.

Seeded at No. 5, San Diego State enters the game as slight favorites according to the oddsmakers, with a narrow 1.5-point margin. This suggests that the game will be closely contested and potentially low-scoring. With that in mind here’s my parlay double, including my two college basketball parlay picks for the game.

Against the Spread

San Diego State’s head coach Brian Dutcher has been with the Aztecs since 1999, playing an assistant role under Steve Fisher. Since assuming the head coaching position in 2017, he has guided the Aztecs to impressive showings during the regular season. However, in the three previous NCAA tournaments under his leadership, they were eliminated in the first round. This year marks a departure from that trend.

After several unsuccessful attempts, they finally broke through with a first-round victory over Charleston, and then advanced to the Sweet 16 with a decisive 23-point triumph over Furman. Their next challenge was against tournament favorite Alabama, and despite being 6.5-point underdogs, they once again relied on their exceptional defensive skills to emerge victorious.

The Aztecs held one of the country’s top five teams in scoring and the tournament's No. 1 seed to just 64 points on the night as they flew into the Elite Eight round, and one more low scoring match-up against Creighton would see them make the Final Four of the tournament for the very first time in their history.

Dutcher has been stern about his team’s approach to their games, voicing that they’re a defensive team first and that ‘everyone knows that about us’. They might know it, but not a single opponent has been able to overcome it thus far, and the Aztecs are one game away from a spot in the national title game.

FAU, meanwhile, came into the tournament as the dominating champions of the C-USA regular season and post season tournament, boasting a 31-3 record. They’d won seven in a row prior to the opening game of March Madness 2023 and had spent time inside the top 20 in this season’s AP Poll.

The Owls have been a high-scoring team this season that has shot well from behind the three-point line all year. This was once again evident in their game against Kansas State, where they showcased their scoring prowess. Despite entering the tournament as the ninth seed, they have proven themselves as formidable opponents and cannot be underestimated, given the impressive run they have had so far.

Although I was initially undecided, eventually I landed with San Diego State to advance to the final. Their ability to contain a high-scoring team like Alabama, who share similar traits with the Owls, stood out to me. Few teams can effectively neutralize such potent offenses, and while FAU will undoubtedly put up a fight, I believe the Aztecs' defensive excellence will ultimately propel them to the national championship game.

San Diego State have covered the spread in seven of their last eight games, including wins as the underdog in the last two rounds against both Creighton and Alabama.

Leg-1 SGP Pick: San Diego State -2.5 (-110)

Over/Under

If San Diego are to win this, it’s going to be a low scoring game. I find it difficult to imagine a scenario where the Aztecs defeat FAU by simply outscoring them, given that FAU has scored over 100 points in two games this season. The Owls are capable of 80+ and they’ve made it look easy a lot during the 2023 season. They’re a great offensive team, but so was Alabama, and the Aztecs made light work of them in the second half of their Sweet 16 matchup.

SDSU are on a streak of unders that I’ve not seen in any sport for quite some time. If your NCAAB picks and predictions have included betting unders on the Aztecs you’re going to be up, and by a sizeable margin. The Aztecs are on an impressive streak of 12 unders, which includes all seven of their postseason games so far.

The line for the Elite Eight matchup with Creighton was set at 134.5. They came in 21.5 points underneath it. I’m backing that streak reaching 13 straight games for my NCAAB picks and parlays today, and the Aztecs making their first tournament final. The defensive unit is truly exceptional and rightfully deserves the national recognition it is receiving.

Leg-2 SGP Pick: Florida Atlantic vs San Diego State Under 131.5
