Suns vs Lakers Injury Report

Lakers forward LeBron James will miss another matchup with the Phoenix Suns on Wednesday night as he sits out his 12th-straight game with a foot injury. Center Mo Bamba is also expected to remain sidelined with an ankle injury for at least the rest of the regular season.

As for the Suns, forward Kevin Durant will miss his seventh-straight game with an ankle injury and is expected to be out for the remainder of the regular season. Center DeAndre Ayton has also been ruled out of Wednesday’s contest with a hip injury. Ayton missed the Suns' last game against the Oklahoma City Thunder.

Suns vs Lakers Prediction & Picks

The Phoenix Suns won the first two regular season matchups against the Lakers quite easily, winning 115-105 and then 130-104. While the Lakers didn’t have LeBron James in either of those matchups, and didn’t have Anthony Davis in the 130-104 loss, Wednesday’s matchup will be very different. The Lakers will still be without James on Wednesday night but they have a slew of new players that have yet to face the Suns in a Lakers jersey. One of those players is guard D’Angelo Russell. In 10 games since joining the Lakers, Russell has averaged 17.9 points, 6.4 assists and 3.3 rebounds per game, with the Lakers going 6-4.

With no Ayton tonight for Phoenix, the post will be wide open for Davis, who dominated the Suns in his sole matchup against them this year, scoring 37 points and reeling in 21 rebounds. While it’s a tall task to ask for similar numbers in this game, you can’t rule it out as Phoenix will have no one to stop Davis. Look for the Lakers to feed the post and toss a few alley-oops in Davis' direction.

Devin Booker will score as he always does, but even his 46 points on Sunday wasn’t enough to beat the Oklahoma City Thunder. Without Ayton there was a clear hole in the Suns defense as they allowed the Thunder to score 124 points. Lakers get their first win over the Suns this season and keep their playoff hopes alive.

The Pick: Los Angeles Lakers ML (-105)

When the Lakers brought in head coach Darvin Ham he preached defense and made it a point that he was going to make it the priority. As we near the end of the regular season, the Lakers are allowing 116.8 points per game, which ranks 21st in the NBA. Their defense looks anything but a priority and has been the cause of at least a few losses this season.

Without Ayton, the Suns lose their rim protector, which is bad news as the Lakers have a force with Davis in the paint. The Lakers rank sixth in the NBA in points in the paint per game this season.

This is a high total in this matchup but these teams reached 220 in their first meeting and 234 in their second. There’s no doubt that with Booker’s scoring abilities, the way the Lakers have been shooting the three-pointer since the trade deadline, and Davis’ huge mismatch, that this game can’t fly over its total.

The Pick: Over 228.5 (-115)

Best Suns vs Lakers Player Prop Bet Picks Today: Wednesday, March 22

Anthony Davis

Even if the Phoenix Suns had DeAndre Ayton on Wednesday night, Anthony Davis would still have a field day against their post defense. Despite ranking within the top 10 in fewest points allowed in the paint this season, the Suns are no matchup for Davis. In Davis’ sole meeting against the Suns this year he scored 37 points and grabbed 21 rebounds.

Since the trade deadline, the Lakers haven’t depended on the big man as much as they’ve found success in other areas, such as improved three-point shooting from newly acquired guys like Malik Beasley and D’Angelo Russell, or the emergence of Austin Reaves, who’s averaging 17.8 points per game over his last 10.

But on Wednesday night in a must-win game, without Ayton in the paint for the Suns, the Lakers will play bully-ball and exploit the biggest mismatch on the floor.

The Pick: Anthony Davis over 26.5 points (-110)

D’Angelo Russell

Russell has been an instant spark plug for the Lakers. They’re 6-4 through the 10 games that he’s been a part of the purple and gold, and during that stretch he’s averaged 17.9 points, 6.4 assists and 3.3 rebounds per game. Since his acquisition, the Lakers have been shooting the ball better as a team and there has been more flow offensively with Russell running the offense.

With no Ayton for the Suns, we’re sure to see at least a few penetrate alley-oops to Davis from Russell on Wednesday night, and likely a lot of penetrating in general from Russell as the paint will be wide open.

In March, Russell has exceeded three or more three-pointers in every game except for one and has been shooting at 45.4 per cent overall and 39.6 per cent from three for the month. Russell will be on double-double watch on Wednesday night as the Lakers look to keep their playoff hopes alive with a win.

The Pick: D’Angelo Russell over 29.5 points, rebounds, assists (-115)
