NBA Player Prop Bets Today for Friday, Nov. 17, 2023.

We get another dose of Victor Wembanyama on national television Friday night as part of an ESPN doubleheader that, unfortunately, will not include Bradley Beal’s Phoenix Suns debut. Beal’s lingering back spasms have his status listed as “doubtful” for the nightcap against the Utah Jazz.

Both Friday ESPN games feature teams from the Western Conference, which is a gift from the Disney gods for anyone outside of the fans in Boston, Philadelphia, and Miami, who have been treated to some special things from their home teams. In every other Eastern Conference city, the operative NBA word is “blah.”

But that does not mean that everything is bad everywhere in the East, especially when it comes to sports gambling. Brooklyn (9-2-1) has the best against-the-spread record in the NBA, and Indiana (10-1) has been the most reliable as far as hitting the over.

Individually, Tyrese Haliburton of the Pacers has become “Must-See TV” on NBA League Pass, and those who watched basketball before seeing the Bengals lose Joe Burrow to injury on Thursday night got a November dose of “Playoff Jimmy Butler.” The Heat star scored 18 of his 36 points in the third quarter of a win over the Nets that gave Miami its seventh consecutive victory -- the longest winning streak in the NBA. The Heat won’t be back in action until Saturday in Chicago, which should stoke a series of speculative Zach LaVine trade stories beyond the ones already out there.

First, we must get through Friday, and we are looking for players who can do what Butler did Thursday night. Finding guys who are consistently lighting it up early in the season is the best way to begin a weekend gambling strategy, so let’s have at it.

Best Celtics vs. Raptors Player-Prop Bet

Scottie Barnes to double-double (+145)

Toronto’s Scottie Barnes has been one rebound shy of a double-double in two consecutive games. He is one of the few players on the Raptors showing a pulse in a season that feels like a slow hike to the trading deadline, when we will learn whether OG Anunoby and/or Pascal Siakam remain Raptors for the balance of the season. Barnes has been pushing it at both ends from an effort perspective -- coming up with five steals on Monday vs. Washington. The challenge of facing the Celtics will bring out the best in this 22-year-old, who does not like being left out of the conversation when names such as Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown are among those cited as the NBA’s best young studs.

The Pick: Scottie Barnes to record a double-double (+145)

Best 76ers vs. Hawks Player-Prop Bet

Trae Young 12+ assists (+230)

The player who famously took a bow in front of the Madison Square Garden fans after breaking their hearts three years ago in the playoffs dropped 17 dimes on the Knicks two nights ago in dueling Jalen Brunson. On Friday night, Trae Young goes up against NBA Most Improved Player award favorite Tyrese Maxey. These types of mano-a-mano games are right up Young’s alley, and there is a strong school of thought that his ego manifests itself most when the best competitors are matched against him. Maxey certainly fits that bill with the season he is having.

The Pick: Trae Young to record at least 12 assists (+230)

Best Suns vs. Jazz Player-Prop Bet

Kevin Durant 35+ points (+330)

We will likely not get to see Bradley Beal play for Phoenix in this game, but we are sure to see Kevin Durant have another high-scoring night. It is merely a matter of how high-scoring that night will be. Durant has put up at least 30 points in four of his last six games, and tonight he faces a Utah team that allows more than 119 points per game -- the second-worst average in the NBA’s Western Conference. The Jazz come in with a modest two-game winning streak, but they allowed Portland bigs Deandre Ayton and Jerami Grant to operate relatively freely two nights ago. Durant is twice the player, and he is due for something in the 40-point range.

The Pick: Kevin Durant to score at least 35 points (+330)

Best Pelicans vs. Nuggets Player Prop Bet

Nikola Jokic 18+ rebounds (+525)

The big man from Serbia is spoiling us with his dominance, and he leads the NBA in rebounding, a full 1.1 boards per game ahead of Sacramento’s Domantas Sabonis. Nikola Jokic’s rebound totals in his last two games were 21 and 16, and the line on him having at least 18 on Friday is extraordinarily enticing, given how well he has been playing for the West-leading Nuggets (9-2).

The Pick: Nikola Jokic to grab at least 18 rebounds (+525)
