Erling Haaland’s Premier League top goalscorer odds sit miles shorter of everybody else’s for a reason.

What Haaland was able to do in the most competitive league in soccer last season was truly remarkable. When he arrived from Dortmund many questioned whether his current form was possible in the Premier League, and he answered those doubters by scoring 36 goals in a 38 game season. The previous record was 34, set by both Andy Cole and Alan Shearer, but in those days the Premier League featured a 42 game campaign.

It’s going to be very tough for anybody else to win it this season. City can feed Haaland with so many clear goal scoring opportunities, and will continue to be one of the most dangerous teams in the league going forward this year.

The Premier League Golden Boot race certainly feels like it starts with Erling Haaland very much in control, and betting against him could be a tough ride.

If the Golden Boot in the Premier League doesn’t go to Erling Haaland this season, we’re looking for the best value alternative plays.

One of those is Mo Salah, who has scored at least 19 goals in the Premier League in each of the last six seasons. He now has 139 goals in 231 appearances, and peaked with 32 goals in the 2017-2018 season, which marked the record in a 38-game campaign before Haaland knocked it off the top spot.

Salah has been consistent, but his best total since 2017 has been 23 goals, which would put him 13 off the mark of Haaland’s performance last year.

That said, as one of Liverpool's biggest threats and a proven goalscorer in this league, the +700 Premier League Golden Boot odds seem like good value.

The Pick: Mo Salah (+700)

Marcus Rashford had one of the most successful years of his career in the 2022-2023 season, and could genuinely build on that this coming year. He netted 17 times in 35 games last year's Premier League campaign and his form accelerated after the World Cup in Qatar, giving him a firm platform to build on in 2023.

Rashford struggled to find his place in the team for a while, and United fans' frustrations grew as the young talent seemed to plateau a little. However, under Erik Ten Hag he’s flourishing, and the Manchester United manager believes his English striker can score 40 goals a season.

With that in mind, Premier League betting odds at +1600 is a nice way to bet on an outsider for the golden boot.
