The playoff matchups are close to being decided at this point in the season, with the one team still fighting to make it in from the outside being the Vegas Golden Knights. With one of the most expensive rosters in the league, it would be the first time Vegas misses the playoffs in their history, and they pretty much need to win every game from here on out. The most important one for Vegas is tonight, as they face the team they're chasing, with the Dallas Stars hosting them. It’s likely the most important game left on the regular season schedule.

Boston Bruins to defeat Florida Panthers +105

After winning 13 games in a row, the Panthers finally had their streak ended at the hands of the suddenly-resurgent Tampa Bay Lightning, and now we enter the part of the year where I’m not sure Florida has much to play for until the playoffs begin. They’ve already secured first place in the Eastern Conference, and they’re up four points on the Colorado Avalanche for the President’s Trophy, with the Avs losing four straight.

The Bruins meanwhile, have a lot to play for. The most important thing of course, is not having to face these Panthers in the first round of the playoffs. The Bruins have a three-point lead over the Washington Capitals, but the Caps have been winning a ton lately, so that lead could evaporate if the Bruins aren’t careful. They need to beat the Panthers to avoid the Panthers.

Auston Matthews to score anytime against Detroit Red Wings -200

Since netting his 51st goal in a 50-game stretch, Auston Matthews has missed some time with injury and been ice cold when he’s been playing. He’s still setting up goals, but his five assists in his last five games are not nearly the production we’ve become accustomed to, and he hasn’t scored once.

For anyone thinking the Leafs are resting him going into the playoffs, he played over 25 minutes in a shootout win over the Washington Capitals on Sunday, so that’s just not the case. After the way the playoffs have gone for the Leafs so far in Matthews’ career, he’s going to want to go into the postseason on a roll, and he only has two games left to start it. Expect the young phenom to start that tonight.

Vegas Golden Knights to defeat Dallas Stars -105

In the last home game of their regular season, all the Vegas Golden Knights needed to do was hold a multi-goal lead against the San Jose Sharks. Shockingly, just like the playoff series between the two teams in 2019, the Golden Knights couldn’t do it, and lost a valuable point after San Jose won in a shootout.

This game is even more important, and with their backs against the wall and their season on the line, this team is far too talented to let this slip through their fingers against the one team they’re chasing. The challenge is almost entirely to shut down the line of Joe Pavelski, Roope Hintz, and Jason Robertson.

If the Golden Knights can’t pull this one off, there are some big questions that need to be asked about that team in the offseason.

Over 5.5 goals in Vegas Golden Knights vs Dallas Stars -120

One of the reasons the Golden Knights have been struggling to get into the playoff picture has been goaltending. Both in terms of performance and these rumours of friction over injuries between Peter DeBoer and Robin Lehner. Not being able to keep the puck out of their net has been an issue.

On the other side though, the Golden Knights finally have Jack Eichel, Mark Stone, and Max Pacioretty in the lineup all at once. That should help them score a bunch, with the bulk of what was their first line in their inaugural season being their third line today. While this one will have a playoff atmosphere, it’s a high-scoring season, and this game should be no different.
