For football fans, having back-to-back weeks of Monday Night Football doubleheaders is like having Christmas come early. A two-game Monday slate provides bettors with multiple wagering options and offers a wealth of choices. Let’s dive into the first of the two games and take a closer look at the Eagles vs. Buccaneers matchup.

Eagles at Buccaneers Preview

Future Hall of Fame quarterback Tom Brady’s decision to retire certainly lowered expectations for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers heading into this 2023 season. However, we are now two games in, and the Bucs are undefeated at 2-0. Those expectations in Tampa are suddenly on the rise, thanks to the play of quarterback Baker Mayfield. Meanwhile, the Philadelphia Eagles are also 2-0 – as was expected – but their wins haven’t been pretty because they have almost blown big leads. Will Tampa Bay be able to pull off what would have earlier seemed a highly unlikely upset at home? It’s time to break it down and make some predictions.

Eagles vs. Buccaneers Predictions and NFL Picks Week 3

Both the Philadelphia and Tampa Bay defenses are gritty and full of talent. Statistically, the Buccaneers defense has actually been better, because the Eagles’ unit has started strong but cooled off toward the end of its first two games. While the Buccaneers’ offense hasn’t seen a big drop in its numbers without Brady this season, Tampa Bay also has yet to face a truly good defense. Predicting the points total for this one is tricky, since Philadelphia’s offense has improving week by week, but I lean toward the under here. This Buccaneers defense is good, and it will slow down the Eagles offense.

The Pick: Under 45.5 (-115)

The Baker Mayfield story has been endearing and very nice to see. He doesn’t look like that one-read quarterback from his days in Cleveland. Maybe Rams head coach Sean McVay imparted enough wisdom to Mayfield during his brief stay in Los Angeles to revive the quarterback’s career. Mayfield is 2-0 through his first two weeks in Tampa Bay, but his storybook season is going to hit a Week 3 roadblock at home on Monday night. This Eagles defense will test Mayfield by pressuring him and causing him to turn the ball over, which is something he has not yet done this season. Meanwhile, Tampa Bay’s own defense is hardly fool’s gold, but this Eagles offense will be the toughest test they have had so far. Given all of that, this spread is quite the head-scratcher, and I’m genuinely confused by it. The Eagles should have easily won each of their first two games by 10 or more points, but they failed to close out their opponents. Philadelphia won’t fail to close out the Buccaneers on Monday night, and this will be a rout from start to finish. Take the layup bet here with the Eagles and the spread.

The Pick: Philadelphia Eagles -4.5 (-110)

Best NFL Player Prop Bets for Eagles vs. Buccaneers: Monday Night Football Week 3

Jalen Hurts

We all saw how stout the New England Patriots defense is when it surrendered only 25 points against the Eagles in Week 1. This Buccaneers defense, however, is even better and will cause problems for Philadelphia on Monday night. The Eagles have leaned slightly more on their legs this season, as the team’s pass-to-run ratio is 46.32 percent through its first two games. Relying on their ground attack might not be the best idea against a Buccaneers defense that allows the NFL’s third-fewest rushing yards at only 54 per game. Look for the Eagles to make more use of quarterback Jalen Hurts’ arm on Monday, which is why I love Hurts’ pass-completion props in this one. Tampa Bay’s defense is going to test this Eagles offense and force Hurts to make more intermediate throws as part of its emphasis on methodical drives.

The Pick: Jalen Hurts over 20.5 passing completions (-115)

Best Same-Game Parlay Week 3 bets today for Eagles vs. Buccaneers: 3-Leg Parlay Pick (+550)

Money LineThis juice is just too low for a game that I essentially view as a Bingo free play. Making the Philadelphia Eagles only a 4.5-point favorite is quite disrespectful for reasons I mentioned above. They have the superior defense and the superior offense going into this game. The Baker Mayfield story is heart-warming, and the Eagles have struggled to close out games, but that will change on Monday. This is David vs. Goliath, only Goliath prevails in this one.

Leg-1 SGP Pick: Philadelphia Eagles ML (-220)

Passing TDsThe Eagles offense will lean on its passing game Monday night. Although Hurts has not thrown more than one touchdown pass in either of the first two games, he will get over that two-TD barrier against the Buccaneers. Philadelphia wide receiver A.J. Brown is a matchup nightmare. Since the run game is going to be isolated, Brown will be a big-red zone target in this game

Leg-2 SGP Pick: Jalen Hurts 2+ Passing Touchdowns (-120)

A.J. Brown Player StatsWide receiver A.J. Brown did not exceed 100 receiving yards in either of the season’s first two weeks, because the Eagles have relied more on the run, and fellow receiver DeVonta Smith has been the team’s preferred deep-ball threat. With Tampa Bay cornerback Jamel Dean set to guard Smith, and Carlton Davis set to guard Brown, I can see the Eagles looking more Brown’s way because Dean has been the Bucs’ better defensive back so far this season. Even if Tampa Bay decides to rotate on covering Brown, he would still be a scary matchup for any member of the Buccaneers’ secondary.

Leg-3 SGP Pick: A.J. Brown 100+ receiving yards (+260)
