The Cincinnati Bengals season appeared to be dead and buried before their miraculous performance against Jacksonville on Monday Night Football. At 6-6, they are just one game behind the three teams occupying the final playoff spots. One of those teams is this week’s opponent, the Indianapolis Colts.

With the Bengals and Bills snapping at their heels, every game is crucial for the Colts. A loss could drop them from the 6th seed to out of the playoff picture. Can they put a swift end to the remarkable Bengals resurgence story?

Colts @ Bengals Preview

Who expected an almost perfect 354-yard day from Jake Browning amidst a 34-point performance from the Cincinnati Bengals? After a couple of games of barely allowing Browning to pass it past the sticks, the Bengals let him loose in this one. He completed an impressive 32 of his 37 attempts, resulting in 354 yards and a touchdown.

He had a lovely deep throw to Ja’Marr Chase that was taken to the house and looked slick when hooking up with 9 different receivers. There was no doubt that the Bengals had talent on their roster, but Browning was viewed as an anchor that even  Chase couldn’t break free from. How wrong we were. The Bengals are back!

Sam Hubbard and Trey Hendrickson both notched a sack each, leading a defensive line that registered 4 on the day. The Jaguars still put up a competitive total, but the Bengals' defense did its job. They got the necessary stop in overtime, allowing Browning and the offense to march the field and score the game-winning field goal.

We are still a way off the level of Joe Burrow, but the Bengals have a real shot at making the playoffs all of a sudden. Defeating the currently 6th-seeded Colts would be a massive win.

There is not much to fear on the Colts’ defense. They are allowing 220 passing yards per game and are amongst the bottom of the league against the run. They gave up 177 yards to Derrick Henry and Tyjae Spears last week. Joe Mixon will be a big part of the offense again, with rookie Chase Brown earning more of a role last week. Establishing the run will be a key to helping Browning settle and find his receivers.

When Browning drops back to pass, he has the enviable luxury of targeting Ja’Marr Chase, a healthy Tee Higgins and Tyler Boyd. Add in Tanner Hudson at tight end, who has started to pop up with some solid performances recently, and the Bengals should be able to move the ball.

With the help of a home crowd behind them, Cincinnati should put up points in this game. The crowd will also make life as hard as possible for Gardner Minshew and the Colts offense. Minshew has performed admirably this year, filling in for Anthony Richardson, who got injured after just a few weeks. He has thrown for 300 yards three times this year, including  last week’s game against Tennessee, where he also had 2 touchdowns.

He will be working against a good Bengals defense, but one that has lost the services of number one cornerback Cam Taylor-Britt, who is on IR. Chidobie Awuzie stepped up with a big game last week against Jacksonville, but they will have their hands full again this week. Michael Pittman headlines a talented group of young receivers. He has been a favorite target of Minshew recently, seeing 41 targets over the last three games.

Alec Pierce reminded everyone that he can still contribute as well, popping up with a beautiful deep touchdown and another deep catch to seal the game. Rookie Josh Downs rounds out the dynamic group of pass-catchers. They have helped Minshew put together a solid season, with the running game also chipping in to do its fair share of work.

With Jonathan Taylor injured yet again, Zach Moss has taken over the starting role. He was frankly elite when filling in at the beginning of the year, and the Colts know that he can handle a heavy workload in the rushing and receiving game. Cincinnati are giving up the second-highest yards per carry on the year, so Moss will be a key player this week.

Colts vs Bengals Predictions and Picks

I am all aboard the Browning Train! Last week was brilliant, completing 32 of 37 attempts against a solid Jaguars defense. He has all the weapons he needs, and this Colts defense are nothing to be afraid of. Give me the Bengals at home in this one.

The Pick: Cincinnati Bengals -2 (-105)

As I have already indicated, I am backing Jake Browning to continue his good play this week. If he can get the Bengals moving the ball and scoring points like last week, I am very confident that we can hit the over in this game. Having Ja’Marr Chase, Tee Higgins and Joe Mixon means that Browning doesn’t need to be perfect, he just needs to get the ball to his playmakers.

I back Indianapolis to put together a few scoring drives as well. The Minshew and Pittman partnership is perfection and Zach Moss should find plenty of room when running the ball. I will be taking the over in this one.

The Pick: Over 43.5 points (-115)

Best NFL Player Prop Bets for Colts vs Bengals

Tee Higgins

Ja’Marr Chase should be the focal point in the offense again this week, but Tee Higgins’ line suggests he is a forgotten man. Last week was Higgins’ first game back from injury, and he only got 3 targets as the team eased him back into proceedings. He caught them all for 36 yards, and I see that as the absolute floor of what to expect from him this week.

Cincinnati should look to get him more involved now that he has proven he is healthy. They have to win games like this, and getting Higgins going will be a great help.

The Pick: Tee Higgins over 36.5 Receiving Yards (-115)

Michael Pittman

I am picking wide receivers from both sides for my player props. Michael Pittman has been a target machine in recent weeks, collecting at least 12 targets and 84 yards in each of his last three games. This week, he faces a Bengals secondary that is giving up the 6th most passing yards per game and is missing Cam Taylor-Britt.

It is a fantastic matchup, and Pittman should once again see plenty of action.

The Pick: Michael Pittman Over 74.5 Receiving Yards (-115)
