College Football Season 2023
Texas Longhorns (5-0) vs. Oklahoma Sooners (5-0)
Date: Saturday, Oct. 7
Time: 12 p.m. ET
Venue: Cotton Bowl Stadium in Dallas, Texas
TV Channel: ABC
Live Stream: FuboTV

Saturday’s game is a huge matchup for the Texas Longhorns and Oklahoma Sooners, who both enter Week 6 with undefeated 5-0 records and are battling one another for first place in the Big 12 Conference.

It’s a big one for sure at the Cotton Bowl in Dallas, so let’s take a look at this game and make a prediction for its outcome.

Texas vs. Oklahoma Odds, Spread, Over/Under, Moneyline - College Football Odds Week 6

Moneyline: Texas Longhorns -250, Oklahoma Sooners +200
Spread: Texas Longhorns -6 (-100), Oklahoma Sooners +6 (-100)
Total: Over/Under 60.5

Texas at Oklahoma Preview

The Texas Longhorns have been on a roll since their high-profile win over Alabama in Week 2. They continued to build off that momentum by defeating Wyoming, Baylor, and Kansas. All three of those wins came by margins of at least 21 points, and the Longhorns covered the spread against both the Bears and Wildcats.

Longhorns QB Quinn Ewers is a Heisman Trophy hopeful who has now thrown 10 touchdowns on the season against just one interception. He has also completed more than 70 percent of his passes over his last two starts. A big performance on the main stage against Oklahoma at noon on Saturday would significantly boost his reputation, but he will be going up against a talented Oklahoma quarterback with very similar goals.

Dillon Gabriel has 15 passing touchdowns for the Sooners this season, plus another four rushing, which includes two TD runs last weekend against Iowa State. Oklahoma’s offense is rolling, having scored at least 50 points three times this season, but the Sooners face their toughest test yet this weekend in Dallas.

While Oklahoma’s offense boasts one of the most impressive scoring outputs in college football so far this year, this team has not yet faced a high-level defense. Texas is ranked No. 1 in the Big 12 in defending against the pass, and Gabriel will need to prove himself in this game if he wants to be taken seriously as one of this year’s better college football quarterbacks.

The Sooners’ explosive receivers will be out to prove a point against the Longhorns. Four Oklahoma pass-catchers are already over 200 receiving yards this season, and three are averaging at least 17 yards per reception.

Texas has its own aerial weapons, however, since Longhorns wide receivers Xavier Worthy and Adonai Mitchell have combined for 666 receiving yards and seven touchdowns so far this year.

Running back Jonathan Brooks has been the real star of the Texas show in 2023. The redshirt sophomore has picked up right where Bijan Robinson left off and now has 596 yards rushing and five touchdowns through five games. Brooks seems to gain momentum with each passing week.

Texas vs. Oklahoma Predictions and Pick

I have Texas winning this one. The spread keeps it within a touchdown, but I believe the Longhorns cover. Oklahoma could surprise us, but the Sooners have not yet been tested against an offense that is nearly as good as the one Texas has.

If Jonathan Brooks gets going -- and he will -- the Longhorns should pull this one out and cover the spread.

The Pick: Texas Longhorns -6 (-110)

College Football Season 2023
Kentucky Wildcats (5-0, 1-0 Away) vs. Georgia Bulldogs (5-0, 4-0 Home)
Date: Saturday, Oct. 7
Time: 7 p.m. ET
Venue: Sanford Stadium in Athens, Ga.
TV Channel: ESPN
Live Stream: FuboTV

The Kentucky Wildcats definitely have a lot of momentum heading into their biggest game of their season against the Georgia Bulldogs. This one looks very interesting, considering what we’ve seen so far from these two teams.

The Bulldogs are undefeated, but are not as dominant as they have been in recent years, so Kentucky will smell blood in the water in this monumental SEC East clash.

Kentucky vs. Georgia Odds, Spread, Over/Under, Moneyline - College Football Odds Week 6

Moneyline: Kentucky Wildcats +500, Georgia Bulldogs -700
Spread: Kentucky Wildcats +14.5 (-110), Georgia Bulldogs -14.5 (-110)
Total: Over/Under 48.5

Kentucky at Georgia Preview

Kentucky made light work of the Florida Gators last weekend in extending its record to 5-0 and keeping pace with 5-0 Georgia atop the SEC East.

The Wildcats ran all over the Gators, as Vanderbilt transfer Ray Davis put up 280 rushing yards and three touchdowns against Florida in what was a pretty one-sided affair from the start.

While Kentucky has enjoyed a very successful running game this year, its offense is also a somewhat one-dimensional, because the Wildcats struggle at quarterback. North Carolina State transfer Devin Leary has been mediocre at best as the team’s starting quarterback, and his ball placement and timing have been off so far this year. He can’t afford to make mistakes against the Bulldogs, who will certainly punish the Wildcats if they turn the football over.

At the same time, it’s important to note that Georgia’s offense has also struggled this year, and there is a ton of pressure on the Bulldogs heading into this game.

The Bulldogs have spent a full year as the nation’s No. 1-ranked college football team. They have a 22-game undefeated streak and are also unbeaten in 22 consecutive home games at Sanford Stadium. Kentucky certainly threatens both streaks this weekend.

Georgia has been a factory for NFL talent in recent years, but the adjustment to a new roster this season is proving to be more of a challenge than it has been in the recent past. The Bulldogs allow more rushing yards than we’re used to seeing. On the other side of the ball, Georgia quarterback Carson Beck will face a gritty Kentucky defense with nothing to lose and everything to gain since the Wildcats are the underdogs here.

Both teams’ defenses rank in the nation’s top 12 for fewest per-game yards yielded to opposing teams. These are two well-coached, stubborn teams, and both quarterbacks will have no room for error.

Kentucky vs. Georgia Prediction and Pick

Running back Ray Davis has been electric for the Wildcats, but if Georgia can slow him down and force Kentucky quarterback Devin Leary to shoulder the offensive load, then the Wildcats could crumble under pressure in a hostile environment.

While the Bulldogs should escape this one with a win, it’s not going to be easy, and I can see it being closer than what the 14.5-point line might suggest.

I’ll take the Wildcats to cover in what will be a nail-biter for the defending national champions.

The Pick: Kentucky +14.5 (-110)

College Football Season 2023
Notre Dame Fighting Irish (5-1, 2-0 Away) vs. Louisville Cardinals (5-0, 2-0 Home)
Date: Saturday, Oct. 7
Time: 7:30 p.m. ET
Venue: L&N Federal Credit Union Stadium in Louisville, Ky.
TV Channel: ABC
Live Stream: FuboTV

Notre Dame can make a statement this weekend with a second straight road win against a ranked opponent. That’s because Louisville finds itself in the AP Top 25 rankings under first-year head coach Jeff Brohm. A win here against the Fighting Irish would really help to legitimize Brohm’s program, since it could well pay big dividends in future recruiting efforts.

Notre Dame vs. Louisville Odds, Spread, Over/Under, Moneyline - College Football Odds Week 6

Moneyline: Notre Dame Fighting Irish -240, Louisville Cardinals +195
Spread: Notre Dame Fighting Irish -6.5 (-115), Louisville Cardinals +6.5 (-105)
Total: Over/Under 53.5

Notre Dame at Louisville Preview

Notre Dame quarterback Sam Hartman ranks sixth on the list of this year’s Heisman Trophy hopefuls, and he is looking to bounce back from what was almost certainly his worst performance of the season last weekend at Duke.

While Hartman didn’t throw any interceptions or turn the football over, he did struggle with just 15 completions on 31 attempts, as he was clearly disrupted by the Duke defense on the road. He finished the game with a 48 percent completion rate, as the Fighting Irish leaned into their run game to score enough points for the win.

Fighting Irish standout running back Audric Estime found the end zone twice for the second time this season, and while it wasn’t his biggest day on the ground, Estime and his teammates found a way to beat a tough opponent on the road.

Notre Dame head coach Marcus Freeman’s team will now need to get another win away from home this weekend if it wants to remain in the conversation for the college football playoffs. Although the Irish lost to Ohio State by just three points two weeks ago, that game might be the difference if the Buckeyes end up with a playoff spot. Notre Dame will need to play nearly flawless football for the rest of the year to make its case for the postseason.

The Fighting Irish defense will look to force Louisville QB Jack Plummer into uncomfortable situations on Saturday, because turnovers have been an issue for him this season.

Plummer had a great day with five TD passes and no turnovers against Boston College in Week 4, but he threw two picks against North Carolina State last weekend, and now has six interceptions on the season.

The Fighting Irish defense is strong – tied with Georgia for 12th in college football in allowing only 294 total yards per game. This is not an easy matchup for Plummer and his offense by any means, but it does present a chance for the Cardinals to prove themselves.

Running back Jawhar Jordan is the star of the Louisville offense with 510 yards and six touchdowns so far this season. He also struggled against the Wolfpack, so a bounce-back game is critical for the Cardinals offense with the team hosting a top-10 opponent.

Notre Dame vs. Louisville Prediction and Pick

I like where Louisville is heading, but this matchup is too great a hurdle for the Cardinals to clear at this stage of their new-look program. Notre Dame has a sturdy defense, and Plummer has proven that he’s capable of a mistake or two.

A flawless performance might give Louisville the edge, but I'm banking on a couple of errors, a turnover or two, and the Fighting Irish covering the 6.5-point spread.

The Pick: Notre Dame -6.5 (-115)

College Football Season 2023
LSU Tigers (3-2, 1-1 Away) vs Missouri Tigers (5-0, 3-0 Home)
Date: Saturday, Oct. 7
Time: 12 p.m. ET
Venue: Faurot Field at Memorial Stadium in Columbia, Mo.
TV Channel: ESPN
Live Stream: FuboTV

Georgia’s game against Kentucky isn’t Saturday’s only SEC matchup involving two ranked teams, because elsewhere in the conference, the No. 23 LSU Tigers will be on the road against No. 21 Missouri.

The Missouri Tigers, currently 5-0 and tied for first place in the SEC East, are looking for their best start in more than a decade. LSU’s Tigers are now 3-2 after a devastating loss to Ole Miss last weekend. That defeat all but ensured that LSU will not be part of this year’s college football playoff race.

LSU vs. Missouri Odds, Spread, Over/Under, Moneyline - College Football Odds Week 6

Moneyline: LSU Tigers -225, Missouri Tigers +190
Spread: LSU Tigers -6.5 (-110), Missouri Tigers +6.5 (-110)
Total: Over/Under 64.5

LSU at Missouri Preview

LSU found itself on the wrong end of a shootout on Saturday and ultimately fell short at Ole Miss. The Tigers had a chance to win the game with only seconds left on the clock, but quarterback Jayden Daniels’ Hail Mary pass sailed harmlessly through traffic – sending the home team’s stadium into complete pandemonium.

The loss was the Tigers’ second of the season, following an embarrassment in their opener against Florida State. Now 3-2, LSU is surely disappointed with its standing in what was supposed to be a contending year for head coach Brian Kelly’s program.

On the other hand, Missouri has been enjoying an incredibly successful season so far. This group of Tigers is 5-0 and tied with both Georgia and Kentucky for first place in the SEC East. A win over LSU would move Missouri into the top two, since Kentucky and Georgia are facing one another at Sanford Stadium this weekend, and one is going to lose.

The LSU-Missouri game could be a high-scoring affair, because both teams boast significant talent on offense. Missouri’s Luther Burden III now has four straight 100-plus-yard receiving games. Just five games into the season, Burden already has 641 receiving yards and five touchdown grabs. He’s one of the program’s greatest recruiting successes in recent history, and he proves his worth each time he touches the football for Mizzou.

Meanwhile, LSU quarterback Jayden Daniels has the luxury of two superb wide receivers. Malik Nabers and Brian Thomas Jr have combined for 13 touchdowns and over 1,100 yards receiving so far this year, consistently connecting with Daniels to keep the Tigers in games.

If it weren’t for its extremely talented offense, LSU might not have won a game this year. The Tigers’ defense is bad. Really bad. It must now deal with Missouri’s Brady Cook, who has been one of the most efficient passers in the SEC this season.

LSU vs. Missouri Prediction and Pick

The spread sits at 6.5 points in favor of the LSU Tigers despite their struggles against Ole Miss last weekend. Missouri is thriving with its underdog story, and the momentum from an impressive five straight wins will undoubtedly fuel its confidence when LSU comes to town on Saturday.

I like the over for this game, especially given these two talented offenses and the shocking defensive display we saw from LSU last week, when the Tigers gave up 55 points against the Rebels.

The Pick: LSU vs. Missouri Over 64.5 Points (-115)
