Best College Football Bets Week 5: Picks, Predictions & Schedules

College Football Schedule Week 5 – Game info

College Football Season 2023
Georgia Bulldogs (4-0, 0-0 Away) vs. Auburn Tigers (3-1, 2-0 Home)
Date: Saturday, Sept. 30
Time: 3:30 p.m. ET
Venue: Jordan-Hare Stadium in Auburn, Ala.
TV Channel: CBS
Live Stream: FuboTV

Longtime college football rivals Georgia and Auburn face off at Jordan-Hare Stadium this weekend. Georgia is unbeaten at 4-0, but the Bulldogs are still showing room for improvement. Can Auburn, coming off a disappointing loss at Texas A&M, get a pull off an upset at home? If they do, it would be their first win over the Bulldogs in six games.

Georgia vs. Auburn Odds, Spread, Over/Under, Moneyline - College Football Odds Week 5

Moneyline: Georgia Bulldogs (-700), Auburn Tigers (+500)
Spread: Georgia Bulldogs -14.5 (-105), Auburn Tigers +14.5 (-115)
Total: Over/Under 45.5

Georgia at Auburn Preview

The Georgia Bulldogs have enjoyed an undefeated start to 2023, but the team is still showing signs of rust. They have yet to beat the spread this season, which means that head coach Kirby Smart’s team has room to grow in comparison to the expectations being set for it.

This trip to Jordan-Hare stadium won’t be easy for Georgia. Auburn has forced eight turnovers this year and leads the SEC in that department. Georgia QB Carson Beck has been solid in his first year as a starter, but this is the team’s first away game of 2023, and it will be a real test for the young quarterback.

The loud Auburn fans won’t just be there to make Beck’s life difficult. They also want to see more from their own quarterback, Payton Thorne, who has only thrown for 561 yards and four touchdowns this year. He has also already been intercepted three times. In Thome’s last start, he managed just 44 passing yards against Texas A&M, so look for Auburn to try get its run game going if it plans to have success.

Georgia will also be looking to run the ball well, because the Tigers have been giving up 134 rushing yards per game this season. There’s no doubt that this Week 5 clash will be a gritty, hard-fought tussle between two rivals.

Georgia vs. Auburn Predictions and Pick

Georgia expects to come into Jordan-Hare Stadium and defeat the Tigers, but it won’t be as easy, as the betting line suggests. The Bulldogs are sure to find their dominating form soon, but their early-season rust -- combined with this being their first road game (and a tough one at that) -- means the smart bet here is to have Auburn covering the spread. Georgia is 0-3-1 against the spread so far this season, and I don’t see that changing in Week 5.

The Pick: Auburn Tigers +14.5 (-115)

College Football Season 2023
Missouri Tigers (4-0, 0-0 Away) vs. Vanderbilt Commodores (2-3, 2-1 Home)
Date: Saturday, Sept. 30
Time: 4 p.m. ET
Venue: FirstBank Stadium in Nashville, Tenn.
TV Channel: SEC Network
Live Stream: FuboTV

Missouri heads to Nashville this weekend in top form and brimming with confidence. The undefeated Tigers have shown that they are primed and ready for big moments, having beaten each of their last three opponents in one-score games to jump out to an impressive 4-0 record. Things haven’t been quite as easy for Vanderbilt, which has slipped to 2-3 this season, but one never knows what might happen until a game is played.

Missouri vs. Vanderbilt Odds, Spread, Over/Under, Moneyline - College Football Odds Week 5

Moneyline: Missouri Tigers (-600), Vanderbilt Commodores (+425)
Spread: Missouri Tigers -13.5 (-115), Vanderbilt Commodores +13.5 (-105)
Total: Over/Under 54.5

Missouri at Vanderbilt Preview

Missouri should feel confident going up against a Vanderbilt team with a losing record – the product of some sloppy football in recent weeks. Unlike the Commodores, the Tigers have been efficient and disciplined in jumping out to a 4-0 start that includes huge wins over Kansas State and Memphis.

Missouri’s Brady Cook has benefited from his experience while throwing for 1,073 yards and seven touchdowns through the first four games. His connection with Luther Burden has been fantastic, and the sophomore receiver has been among college football’s best performers this season with 504 receiving yards and three touchdowns. Vanderbilt’s defensive backs will have their hands full with him.

On the flip side, Vanderbilt quarterback, AJ Swann, has thrown six interceptions in the last three weeks alone, and the Commodores have one of the worst turnover rates in the SEC.

If Vanderbilt is to have any chance in this game, it will need to protect Swann from Missouri’s strong defensive line. There are some weaknesses along the Commodores’ offensive line, and its ability to hold up under pressure will be one of the keys to the game.

Missouri vs. Vanderbilt Predictions and Pick

These teams come into this game with very different levels of confidence, and I think that Missouri will just be too good for Vanderbilt on Saturday. QB Brady Cook is cooking with receiver Luther Burden, who should have no trouble recording his fourth 100-yard game in as many weeks. The matchup in the trenches also favors Missouri, and I think the Tigers beat the spread in this one.

The Pick: Missouri Tigers -13.5 (-115)

College Football Season 2023
Florida Gators (3-1, 0-1 Away) vs. Kentucky Wildcats (4-0, 3-0 Home)
Date: Saturday, Sept. 30
Time: 12 p.m. ET
Venue: Kroger Field in Lexington, Ky.
TV Channel:
ESPN
Live Stream: FuboTV

Week 5 of this college football season includes an intriguing SEC matchup between the undefeated Kentucky Wildcats and the 3-1 Florida Gators. Wildcats quarterback Devin Leary’s play hasn’t been pretty, but Kentucky’s stout defense and four games against weaker opponents have led to a perfect record so far. Can the Wildcats keep things going against a Gators team that has been picking up momentum?

Florida vs. Kentucky Odds, Spread, Over/Under, Moneyline - College Football Odds Week 5

Moneyline: Florida Gators (+100), Kentucky Wildcats (-120)
Spread: Florida Gators +1.5 (-115), Kentucky Wildcats -1.5 (-105)
Total: Over/Under 44.5

Florida at Kentucky Preview

Kentucky’s 45-28 victory over Vanderbilt last Saturday helped the Wildcats remain undefeated in 2023, but the performance of quarterback Devin Leary should have the team’s fans concerned. Although Kentucky put up 45 points, Leary only managed to complete 15 of 29 passes for 205 yards and one touchdown. He was also picked off twice.

Leary has been intercepted at least once in each of Kentucky’s four games. His ability to avoid turnovers while helping his team move up the field will be particularly important against this Florida defense, which is only allowing 244.8 yards per game – the lowest average of any SEC team this season. Leary will have to step up and play especially well against tough opposition.

When Florida has the ball, the Gators will look to running back Trevor Etienne to wear out the Kentucky defense. Etienne is currently averaging 6.6 yards per carry, and he put the team on his back with a 172-yard performance against Tennessee in Week 3. The Wildcats defense has been solid against the run in 2023, but this will be their toughest test of the year. If Florida can get Etienne going, it will have a great chance to win.

Florida vs. Kentucky Predictions and Pick

Florida has lost eight of its last nine road games, but the Gators match up very well in this one. Quarterback Graham Mertz can protect the ball and tends to be very efficient with his passes, so this game will come down to whether the Gators get Trevor Etienne going on the ground. I expect them to do that and will take Florida to hand Kentucky its first loss of the season.

The Pick: Florida Gators to win (+100)

College Football Season 2023
LSU Tigers (3-1, 1-0 Away) vs. Ole Miss Rebels (3-1, 2-0 Home)
Date: Saturday, Sept. 30
Time: 6:30 p.m. ET
Venue: Vaught-Hemingway Stadium in Oxford, Miss.
TV Channel: ABC
Live Stream: FuboTV

This Week 5 clash between LSU and Ole Miss is a meeting of two offensive powerhouses and promises to be an explosive affair. These offenses currently rank first and second in the SEC when it comes to yards-per-play -- with the Tigers averaging 7.6 and the Rebels averaging 7.3. Ole Miss is returning home after a frustrating loss at Alabama, so buckle up for what looks like a game that will have plenty of fireworks.

LSU vs. Mississippi Odds, Spread, Over/Under, Moneyline - College Football Odds Week 5

Moneyline: LSU Tigers -140, Ole Miss Rebels +120
Spread: LSU Tigers -2.5 (-115), Ole Miss Rebels +2.5 (-105)
Total: Over/Under 67.5

LSU at Mississippi Preview

This fantastic Week 5 matchup should be a very high-scoring affair. It’s hard to imagine that any player other than one of the quarterbacks will hold the key to victory.

LSU won this matchup last year when quarterback Jayden Daniels took over the game and had a hand in five touchdowns. He finished with 248 passing yards and two TD passes, as well as 23 carries for 121 yards and three touchdown runs. It goes without saying that the Rebels must do a better job of containing Daniels this time if they are to have a chance at winning.

Fortunately, Ole Miss has its own talented quarterback in junior Jaxson Dart, who can also dominate a game. He has thrown for 1,096 yards and seven touchdowns so far this season, while also rushing for 219 yards and three TDs. Alabama did a fantastic job of containing Dart in the Crimson Tide’s 24-10 win over Ole Miss last week, but he should find it easier to operate against the Tigers.

LSU has playmakers on its defensive line, but those linemen have struggled to make an impact in the Tigers’ first four games. LSU fans will surely be hoping this is the game when that line steps up to make life hard for the opposition. Alabama sacked Dart five times last Saturday, and LSU’s path to victory would like require a similar feat.

LSU vs. Mississippi Predictions and Pick

They having already lost an SEC game, so this matchup has huge ramifications for the Ole Miss Rebels. It’s going to be a back-and-forth game, and with so much on the line, I think Ole Miss should pull out the win. Look for a standout performance from Jaxson Dart to secure the upset.

The Pick: Mississippi +2.5 (-105)
