The tournament is starting to heat up now as we’re down to the final 16 teams and the winners on Friday and Saturday will be one step closer to cutting down the nets. While we haven’t seen any crazy upsets just yet, as all of the one seeds and a majority of the top seeded teams are still in the tournament, this is the weekend where things could shake up. Let’s dive into the Sweet 16 and see which teams are on upset alert.

Best March Madness Women's Sweet 16 Upset Predictions and Bets Today

NC State vs Stanford Women's Prediction and Pick

The Stanford Cardinal haven’t looked as dominant as I expected them too. With star senior forward Cameron Brink in her final season and coming off a Gold Medal Summer in the 3x3, this season has been a letdown for the Cardinal. As for N.C. State, they had a bit of a scare in the round of 32 against Tennessee, as future WNBA superstar Rickea Jackson’s 33 points made it very hard for N.C. State to put them away.

N.C. State has had a phenomenal season as they beat several great teams like Connecticut, Colorado, and ran through the ACC. But the way that Jackson dominated the interior defense of N.C. State in the round of 32 was concerning. As touched on above, Brink is coming off a Gold Medal Summer and Kiki Iriafen is coming off of a career-high 41-point game that she had 16 rebounds and three blocks in. If N.C. State can contain Brink and Iriafen, then they can run away with this game as Stanford has had a handful games this year where their offense went stagnant. While Jackson did have 33 on N.C. State, 25 of those points came in the first and fourth quarter, as N.C. State found ways to shut her down in the second and third quarter. If N.C. State can defend Brink and Iriafen like they did Jackson in the second and third quarters, then N.C. State will advance to the Elite 8.

The Pick: N.C. State ML (+170)

Gonzaga vs Texas Women's Prediction and Pick

This matchup between Gonzaga and Texas is getting heavily overlooked in betting markets as this total is way too low. The first team to 100 could be the team that wins this game. Gonzaga and Texas average 80.9 and 80.8 points per game, which rank among the best in the nation.

While the Texas Longhorns fought through the Big 12 and faced some very tough opponents, they’ve yet to face a team like Gonzaga who can score at a high rate. Gonzaga has scored under 70 points just two times this season, and they scored 67 in both of those games. Texas played great defense this season as their 57.4 points allowed ranked 32nd in the country. They will be tested on Friday night by a Gonzaga team that’s fifth in the country in free throw percentage, first in three point percentage and eighth in field goal percentage this season.

Look for Gonzaga to keep the tempo going in this game as there will be times where Texas is playing catch up. If you want to hedge, do so with the over. But Gonzaga winning outright and moving onto the Elite 8 is a strong play here.

The Pick: Gonzaga ML (+200)

Colorado vs Iowa Women's Prediction and Pick

Similar to the Gonzaga and Texas game above, this game too will be very high scoring, as Iowa’s 92 points per game this season gives them the undisputed title for the best offense in college basketball. Colorado’s 75.4 points per game ranks them just inside the top 30 at 29th in the country.

Colorado might’ve finished 5th in the Pac-12, but that can’t get overlooked as the Pac-12 is arguably the best conference in women’s basketball this season. For those just joining us this season, yes, Caitlin Clark is great, but there are a handful of teams better than Iowa in this Tournament. Clark is a walking bucket with unlimited range but if she goes into a cold spurt or two and her teammates are unable to contribute like they’ve done at times this season, then Colorado will take full advantage. This is a Colorado team that stunned LSU on opening night, and it wasn’t even close as they won 92-78. If that same Colorado team shows up on Saturday and Clark is off for even a quarter, then we could see what the general public would call a major upset.

The Pick: Colorado ML (+275)
