#2 Iowa State vs #7 Washington State Prediction and Pick

The Cyclones took care of business in their round one matchup against an inferior (14) South Dakota State team, winning by 17. When that offense is cooking it's hard to stop. Iowa State registered three different 15+ point scorers on the outing, led by Freshman Forward Milan Momcilovic, who tallied 19 of his own.

Washington State, on the other hand, barely scraped by against the (10) Drake Bulldogs in what turned into a second half slog. Neither team could score effectively, but the Cougars’ defense stood tall and somehow rallied for an eight point comeback in as many minutes.

If the Cougars continue to play the way they did Wednesday against a much better Iowa State team, they won’t stand a chance. Barring anything spectacularly unforeseen, the Cyclones should be moving on to the Sweet Sixteen.

The Pick: Iowa State -7.5 (-105)

#2 Arizona vs #7 Dayton Prediction and Pick

As expected, the Arizona Wildcats got the job done in a 20-point win over (15) Long Beach State. Although LBS hung in at the beginning, it just wasn’t going to be enough against this Arizona team. The game was never within reach in the second half. All five starters scored double digit points in the outing, and the Wildcats closed it out with a final score of 85-65.

The Dayton Flyers had a slightly unconventional path to round two of the NCAA tournament, successfully overcoming a 17-point deficit and pulling out a victory from the jaws of defeat against (10) Nevada. Dayton showed fight on both ends of the floor, going on a 24-4 run late to claw their way back into the contest, and only conceded two baskets in the final 7 minutes and 30 seconds of play.

Arizona is a hard team to match up against. With so many players able to create scoring threats, running double teams like you would against the star players for other teams just isn’t going to work. Dayton can’t fall behind like that again in their round two matchup against the Wildcats and will have to put a full two halves of their best play on the court in order to move on. Arizona is just so strong in comparison, and they should be able to advance.

The Pick: Arizona -9.5 (-115)

#5 Gonzaga vs #4 Kansas Prediction and Pick

Although there have certainly been more powerful Gonzaga rosters in the past, the Bulldogs are one of the most consistent teams in College Basketball, and their experience in the NCAA Tournament shows. I had McNeese on a potential upset alert, but they didn’t stand a chance on Thursday, as Gonzaga got out to a big lead early and never let off the gas. Graham Ike and Anton Watson both snagged double-doubles en route to the 86-65 blowout. Gonzaga now has to face Kansas in their next March Madness matchup.

Kansas had a lot of questions coming into their game against Samford, with the absence of Kevin McCullar and Hunter Dickinson still nursing an injury of his own. Dickinson did play, and though they did squeak out the win, they benefited from an incorrectly called foul in the late stages of the game that shifted the tides of the entire contest. If not for that, we could be having an entirely different conversation about the Jayhawks and how they fell apart.

Gonzaga likely smells blood in the water, and the Jayhawks can’t get healthy fast enough for their round two matchup. It could be a great game, or the Bulldogs could just be putting KU out of its misery for 40 minutes.

While they’re the slightly lower seed, Gonzaga is the favorite here. I have them clearing the spread in this one and advancing for the third leg of my CBB parlay picks.

The Pick: Gonzaga -3.5 (-115)

#2 Tennessee vs #7 Texas Prediction and Pick

There will be no conversation about Rick Barnes and his Tennessee Volunteers team playing down to their competition, bullying Saint Peters in an 83-49 display of domination in the NCAA tournament opening round.

The Vols held all but Peacocks guard Latrell Reid to single digits, frustrating them offensively and forcing countless contested shot attempts. The result was a comfortable win for Tennessee, leading by 26 at the half.

Dalton Knecht led the Vols in scoring with 23 points, while ball handler Zakai Zeigler did what he’s done best all season, finding open shooters on the offensive end. The Vols guard ended the game with a double-double, dropping 11 points and 10 assists in the tournament's opening round.

Their second-round opponent, the Texas Longhorns, eased past Colorado State in a low scoring affair. Texas won that game 56-44, following a tremendously low scoring first half in which the Rams were only able to score 11 points.

This one feels heavily weighted in the Vols favor, with the Texas Longhorns failing to have anybody elevate and score more than 12 points against a far lesser opponent. That doesn’t bode well against Tennessee, who I have winning this game and covering the 6.5-point spread to round out my College Basketball parlay picks today.

The Pick: Tennessee -6.5 (-110)
