NBA Playoff Player Props: Best Bets for Lakers vs Warriors Game 5

LeBron James and the Los Angeles Lakers won Game 4 of their playoff series vs. Golden State, taking a closely fought battle by the final score of 104-101. The victory brought the Lakers one step closer to the Western Conference Finals, as Los Angeles now leads the series 3-1. The Lakers’ next challenge awaits them in San Francisco, where they will face the Warriors in Game 5 at the Chase Center. On the brink of elimination, Golden State must accomplish the seemingly impossible task of rebounding from a 3-1 deficit against a LeBron-led team if the Warriors hope to remain in the playoffs.

Lakers vs Warriors Preview

The Game 4 victory was huge for the Lakers, who now have up to three chances to close out the Warriors with a win. It would be premature, however, to declare this series over just yet.

The Lakers struggled from 3-point range during Game 4 and only managed to secure their 104-101 win on the strength of a flawless performance at the free-throw line. Los Angeles’ defense was also a key factor in the game, particularly in the final quarter. The Lakers held Steph Curry and the Warriors to just 17 points over the final 12 minutes. That was an impressive feat, but the Lakers' overall performance was not without flaws of its own.

While the Lakers' defense held up well in the closing minutes and did a decent job of containing Curry, the Warriors star point guard still managed to record 14 assists. This is one area the Lakers will undoubtedly want to address in Game 5.

On the other side of the court, the Warriors need to make defensive adjustments and pay closer attention to Anthony Davis, who was able to break free early on in the game and help the Lakers take the lead. By the time the Warriors adjusted their defensive strategy, Davis had already made a significant impact on Game 4.

The Warriors must also improve their ball movement and find ways to create more open shots. This will require a smoother and more efficient offensive approach in the next game.

Lakers vs Warriors Injury Report

Golden State’s Andre Iguodala has been cleared to return to practice but is still about a week away from making it back into the lineup. The veteran has been offering his services as an extra member of the coaching staff while unable to play. He will be in line to return should the Warriors manage to advance.

On the Lakers’ side, Mo Bama was ruled out of Game 4 and remains the only name on the team’s injury report.

Best Lakers vs Warriors Player Prop Bets Tonight - Wednesday, May 10

Anthony Davis Rebounds

Anthony Davis has had three really strong rebounding games so far in this series. With the Warriors moving toward a smaller rotation and fewer minutes for Kevon Looney, I think Davis’ rebounding will be one of the biggest areas to benefit from this change.

Davis has averaged 14 rebounds over the past two games, and with the Warriors playing at home and needing to take a higher volume of shots to force a Game 6, I have him covering the 14.5 betting line.

The Pick: Anthony Davis Over 14.5 Rebounds (-105)

LeBron James 3-Pointers Made

LeBron James attempted nine shots from beyond the arc in Game 4, but some of those attempts were questionable. His decision-making on 3-point shots wasn't ideal, and although he attempted more threes in that game than in any other game of the series, I anticipate that he will reduce the number of 3-pointers he attempts when playing on the road. Instead, he may focus on driving inside and taking shots from closer range.

Over the course of this series against the Warriors, LeBron has made 3-pointers at a rate of only 27 percent and only had more than two threes in Game 2 of the series.

The Pick: Lebron James Under 2.5 Three Pointers Made (-160)

Steph Curry Assists Total

As previously mentioned, the Lakers allowed Steph Curry to rack up 14 assists in Game 4 as part of his triple-double that included 31 points and 10 rebounds.

Los Angeles was so focused on limiting Curry's shooting opportunities that he was able to exploit gaps in the Lakers defense with accurate passes, setting up his teammates for some comfortable looks.

While Curry would ideally like to have more shooting opportunities of his own in Game 5, his passing ability and the overall movement of the Warriors' offense were strengths that worked in Golden State’s favor. So, I don't think the team will completely shy away from this approach in the next game.

The Pick: Steph Curry Over 6.5 Assists (-135)

Klay Thompson Points Total

I’m a firm believer in backing a guy coming off a slump. Great players don’t stay cold forever, and Klay Thompson is a proven big-game player in the postseason. He has shot poorly over the last two games, and his shot selection has been a little off, too.

However, being back at home for Game 5 after two poor games on the road is a different story. I think Thompson bounces back in this one. Over Games 1 and 2 at home, Thompson had a total of 14 threes. His team needs him to come through like that again in this game.

I think he will hit the over on threes, but I feel more comfortable backing him to start scoring again on the inside, which is something he has not done in the last two games.

The Pick: Klay Thompson Over 22.5 Points (-120)
