Who is favorite to win NBA Coach of the Year?

Phoenix Suns head coach Monty Williams is pulling away from the field in the race to win NBA Coach of the Year for the 2021-22 season.

The Suns are streaking clear at the top of the Western Conference with a league-best 48-10 record, and currently hold a 6.5-game lead over the Golden State Warriors.

He is -250 in the NBA betting to win Coach of the Year.

Cleveland Cavaliers head coach J.B. Bickerstaff is currently second in the betting at +320, while Taylor Jenkins of the Memphis Grizzlies is third at +600. He is closely followed by Chicago Bulls head coach Billy Donovan.

Eric Spoelstra of the Miami Heat is the other coach still in the running at +900.

Monty Williams -250

At this rate, it's going to be tough for anyone to catch Williams. His Suns are clearly the best team in the NBA, and if they finish top of the West, particularly with a sizable lead, he should win the award.

J.B. Bickerstaff +320

Bickerstaff is unlikely to take the Cavs to the top of the East, but he might not need to. The improvement is clear for everyone to see as Cleveland close in on a playoff spot, having not made the postseason for the last three seasons.

NBA Coach of the Year sleepers

Ime Udoka +5000

Udoka has come from nowhere to become a potential latecomer to the Coach of the Year conversation. He is still a massive long shot at this price, but a nine-game win streak before the All-Star Break suggests his Boston Celtics are clicking, and a continuation of that form to the end of the season could catapult Udoka into the running.

NBA Coach of the Year trends

There a few things to consider when placing a bet on NBA Coach of the Year, and trends from past winners can help inform your wager.

Firstly, the award generally goes to a coach that has overseen a significant number of wins. That may seem obvious, but just two coaches over the past 10 years have won the award with fewer than 50 wins, and both of those came in the shortened 2019-20 and 2020-21 campaigns. On average, the last 10 winners have led their teams to 56.8 wins over the season.

The next trend to consider is season-on-season improvement. Coaches that win a lot of games with a team that is already great don’t tend to get recognition come awards season. Instead, those that bring out big improvements, particularly in the win column, are always in the mix. Since 2013, the Coach of the Year has overseen an increase of 13.6 wins from the previous season.

Who is favorite to win NBA Coach of the Year?

Phoenix Suns head coach Monty Williams is currently the favorite to win NBA Coach of the Year for the 2021-22 season.

Williams has led the Suns to a league-best 37-9 record as we head into February, and they now hold a three-game lead over the Golden State Warriors at the top of the Western Conference.

He is +250 in the NBA betting to win Coach of the Year.

Cleveland Cavaliers head coach J.B. Bickerstaff (+350) is currently second in the betting, with Billy Donovan (+500) of the Chicago Bulls sitting in third.

Although Williams leads at this point in the season, with Bickerstaff and Donovan not far behind, there are still several coaches who have a good chance at winning the award.

Taylor Jenkins of the Memphis Grizzlies is fourth at +650, with Steve Kerr of the Golden State Warriors just behind him at +700.

Should Williams keep the Suns at the top of the Western Conference for the rest of the season, it will be hard to look past him for Coach of the Year. With his odds still reasonable, it could be worth jumping on now.

Billy Donovan +500

The same goes for Donovan and the Bulls - if they are towards the top of the East come playoff time, he will certainly be in the conversation.

NBA Coach of the Year sleepers

Erik Spoelstra +800

Spoelstra and the Heat continue to impress, and currently top the standings in the East with a 30-17 record.

Should they continue to rack up the wins in the second half of the season, Spoelstra could be in line for his first Coach of the Year award to go along with his two rings.

Who is favorite to win NBA Coach of the Year?

Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr and Phoenix Suns head coach Monty Williams are currently joint favorites to win NBA Coach of the Year for the 2021-22 season.

Kerr, who won the award in 2015-16, has led the Warriors to the top of the Western Conference at the start of 2022 with a 29-7 record.

Williams, meanwhile, continues to impress in Phoenix after they lost in the Finals last year. The Suns are currently level with the Warriors at the top of the West.

Both are priced at +375 in the NBA betting to win Coach of the Year.

NBA Coach of the Year odds

Kerr and Williams are at the top of the market as things stand, but it is a very open race for Coach of the Year at this point in the season.

Billy Donovan of the Chicago Bulls is third favorite at +400, while Cleveland Cavaliers head coach J.B. Bickerstaff is fourth at +450.

Here are the odds for the contenders at the top of the market.

Steve Kerr (+375)

Monty Williams (+375)

Billy Donovan (+400)

J.B. Bickerstaff (+450)

Taylor Jenkins (+1200)

Steve Nash (+1300)

Quin Snyder (+1500)

Erik Spoelstra (+1600)

Doc Rivers (+2000)

Mike Budenholzer (+2800)

Jason Kidd (+3000)

James Borrego (+3000)

NBA Coach of the Year best bets

Billy Donovan (+400)

After an average first season in Chicago, Donovan is proving himself for the Bulls after some smart recruitment in the offseason.

The additions of DeMar DeRozan, Lonzo Ball and Alex Caruso have helped Chicago to the top of the East with a 25-10 record, and Donovan would be a real contender for Coach of the Year if they stay there.

J.B. Bickerstaff (+450)

The Cleveland Cavaliers are one of the surprise packages in the NBA this season, with a playoff berth on the cards as they sit sixth in the East.

Should they secure a first appearance in the postseason since 2017-18, Bickerstaff would be among the favorites to win Coach of the Year.

NBA Coach of the Year sleepers

Taylor Jenkins (+1200)

Jenkins took the Memphis Grizzlies to their first postseason appearance since 2015-16 last year, as they finished eighth in the Eastern Conference.

He looks to be taking his team to the next level this season, with six straight wins taking Memphis to fourth place in the East, and that could put him in the conversation for Coach of the Year.
