Best NBA Player Prop Bets Today: Thursday, February 9th

Phoenix Suns vs Atlanta Hawks Player Prop Bets

John Collins

The Phoenix Suns are one of the league’s best performing teams against power forwards this season. They’re allowing the third least points per game against the position, with their bigs playing good defense to limit scoring opportunities, particularly in recent games.

The Suns' defensive performance against the Boston Celtics was particularly noteworthy, as they held Jayson Tatum to an inefficient 3-15 shooting from the floor and 3-10 from 3-point range, limiting him to a disappointing 20 points in the game.

The Suns did lose Mikal Bridges in the trade for Kevin Durant, which might hurt their defense temporarily, but I’d apply that theory at the perimeter, where John Collins hasn’t hit more than one three in his last nine games regardless of the defense he faces.

Collins is averaging 28 minutes per game so far in February, more than five minutes less than he was playing in January, and he’s taking less shots too, with an average of eight field goals versus his January average of 11.5 per game.

The Hawks power forward had a good scoring run at the end of January but has only cleared 10 points once in his last four, during his last game out against the New Orleans Pelicans.

The Suns are hot right now, winning nine of their last 11 games and playing good defense. With Ayton in fine form and Dario Saric making a surprising contribution, I can see Collins coming out with 10 or less points in this one, with the game likely gearing more towards perimeter shooting for the Hawks.

The Pick: John Collins Under 12.5 Points (-125)

Denver Nuggets vs Orlando Magic Player Prop Bets

Nikola Jokic

Oddsmakers are predicting a big night for Nikola Jokic on Thursday night.

Wendell Carter Jr will be seeing him the majority of the game, and the Magic are coming into this one having given up 14 rebounds to Julius Randle in their last game, and five offensive rebounds against Knicks center Jericho Sims. Orlando will be missing some of their depth, with center Mo Bamba suspended for four games after getting into a fight with Minnesota Timberwolves guard Austin Rivers in early February. He will therefore miss the game against the Nuggets.

Jokic has averaged 15.5 rebounds per game in his last four as well as 10.5 assists per game, helping the Nuggets to 12 wins in their last 13 games. The current MVP favorite is playing at a high level, and the matchup here favors Jokic over the Magic.

The Pick: Nikola Jokic Over 11.5 Rebounds (-120)

Chicago Bulls vs Brooklyn Nets Player Prop Bets

Nikola Vucevic

Nikola Vucevic has been in good scoring form in recent weeks, scoring 22+ points in five of his last six games. The Chicago Bulls center is currently taking a higher volume of shots, with an average of 18.8 field goal attempts and 5.5 three-point shots so far in February, an increase on his 15.1 and 4.7 numbers from January.

That said, the Nets are starting to look strong on defense, and Nic Claxton could have had his name called for an All-Star spot for the way he’s been playing on D so far this season.

As a fan of Nic Claxton, I have high hopes for the newly revamped Brooklyn Nets team, although I recognize that it will take time for the new additions to integrate. The team's performance in their recent game against Phoenix, where they allowed Deandre Ayton to score 35 points, has influenced my leaning towards betting on the over for the Chicago Bulls' big man.

The Pick: Nikola Vucevic Over 20.5 Points (-110)

Milwaukee Bucks vs LA Lakers Player Prop Bets

Giannis Antetokounmpo

The Lakers' defense has been subpar, to put it mildly. Recently, it has been difficult to watch them play defense, and they are giving up an excessive number of points due to this deficiency.

Over the course of their last ten games, the Lakers have given up an average of 121 points per game. During this span, they have allowed the second-highest number of field goal attempts and third-highest number of three-point attempts per game and have also allowed their opponents to grab the second-most rebounds per game.

Hosting the NBAs best scoring franchise this season is not an ideal matchup for the Lakers, who just rolled the dice on a second stint with D’Angelo Russell, trading Russell Westbrook away in the hope of shaking things up a little.

I don’t see where the ability to suddenly defend Giannis is going to come from in this game, and I don’t want to overthink it too much. Giannis averaged 31 points per game in January, an average that was hindered by two poor nights of seven and nine points. He has scored 33 or more points in the last six games where he’s played 30+ minutes.

I’m predicting a big night for Giannis with 35+ points, 14+ rebounds and 7+ assists.

The Pick: Giannis Antetokounmpo Over 33.5 Points (-140)
