This summer in America it’s not soccer -- es Fútbol. CONMEBOL Copa America, the world’s oldest international soccer tournament, returns to the United States for the first time since the U.S. hosted the successful 2016 Copa America Centenario. That tournament ended with a  traumatic loss in the final for Lionel Messi and Argentina’s fans. Of course, that was quickly forgotten after Argentina later won the 2022 World Cup.

Despite Mbappe’s recent comments that the Euros is tougher to win than the Copa America, the 2024 edition of this tournament is a mini-World Cup of sorts with the addition of six teams – United States, Mexico, Canada, Jamaica, Costa Rica, and Panama.

The opening match between defending champion Argentina vs Canada gets under way on Thursday, June 20. Current odds to win the 2024 Copa America have Argentina (+187) and Brazil (+250) as the favorites. Can La Albiceleste -- led by the GOAT, Leo Messi -- repeat its 2021 sucess and win back-to-back tournaments?

We offer our readers free soccer picks and betting tips, as well as Copa America odds and selections, so let’s dive into the best Copa America future bets for tournament winner and top goalscorer.

Favorites to win the Copa America 2024

Argentina +187

The 2022 World Cup and 2021 Copa America champions, lead once again by 36-year-old Inter Miami soccer star Lionel Messi, return with Messi representing his country in what could possibly be one of his last major international tournaments.

Manager Scaloni’s selection for Argentina's final Copa America roster saw only minor changes from his World Cup squad. Argentina currently leads the South American FIFA World Cup Qualifiers with 5 wins and 1 loss after beating Brazil in the team's most recent qualifier match at the historic Maracana stadium.

The Argentinians look strong after defeating Costa Rica, El Salvador, Ecuador, and Guatemala in 2024 friendly matches. They are expected to finish first in Group A, and it would be shocking if Argentina fails to reach the final.

Brazil +250

Dorival Junior, Brzil head coach, raised some eyebrows by optiong not to include experienced players Casemiro (Man United) and Richarlison (Tottenham) on his final Copa America roster.

Apart from Vinicius Junior, who deserves the Ballon d’Or, this is a young Brazilian team (the fourth-youngest team in the tournament with an average age of 25.7) that lacks the well-known players as we are used to seeing. It does, however, offer a chance for 17-year-old star Endrick (Real Madrid signed him for $37.7 million, plus another $26.9 million in variables) and 23-year-old Rodrygo to shine at the international level.

Brazil biggest obstacle to winning Group D will be Colombia. If Brazil should end up in second place, and Uruguay wins Group C, then we would have a MUST-WATCH “South American Clasico” in the quarterfinals. Regardless, any official “Futebol” tournament, the Seleção is always a top contender.

Uruguay +550

Marcelo “El Loco” Bielsa returns to the Copa America after 20 years, having turned Uruguay into a machine. Los Charruas currently holds second place in the South American Qualifiers, and his preference for high pressing, vertical attacking, and out-of-ball possession has worked beautifully for Uruguay, which has already beaten both Argentina and Brazil.

Uruguay has one solid duo at center-back in Ronald Araujo (Barcelona F.C.) and Jose Maria Gimenez (Atletico Madrid) and another at center-midfielders in Federico Valverde (Real Madrid) and Manuel Ugarte (Paris Saint-Germain). They will set up runs by Darwin Nunez (Liverpool F.C.) and national legend Luis Suarez (Inter Miami). In short, this team has all the tools needed to reach the final game.

2024 Copa America Winner Prediction and Pick

Argentina is in the top half of the bracket and has an “easier” schedule than Uruguay and Brazil when it comes to berth in the final game. In the quarter-final, the Argentinians will will face either Ecuador, Mexico or Venezuela – three teams that are often criticized by their local media and fans for poor performance, head-coaching decisions related to players' positions on the pitch and in-game tactics. None of those three team have displayed a solid game plan yet.

We expect to see Argentina draw Chile in the semifinals. Given the fact that Argentina lost back-to-back Copa America finals to Chile in 2015 and 2016, we shouldn’t expect to see Messi in anything less than his 2022 World Cup form. This is a game that EVERYONE will want to watch.

The final matchup is the toughest call. Our prediction is that Argentina will face Uruguay. It will be Messi vs. Suarez and Argentina vs. its native son Bielsa. An Argentina-Uruguay final would surely come with mixed feelings for both players and soccer fans, since it would mark the end of an era for two South American soccer legends at this tournament. We’ll call it here -- goalkeeper Dibu Martinez will make sure Argentina gets the win.

The Pick: Argentina +187

2024 Copa America Sleeper Pick

Los Cafeteros are on an impressive winning strike. Colombia hasn’t lost since a road game on Feb. 1, 2022, when it fell to Argentina 1-0 in the World Cup Qualifiers. Since then, Colombia has gone a total of 23 games (across both official and friendly matches) without losing. During that run, it has beaten Germany, Spain, and Brazil.

Although former Real Madrid star James Rodriguez is no longer part of the Sao Paulo club under new head coach Luis Zubeldia, he continues to play a vital role in the midfield for Colombia’s Copa America squad.

Colombia head coach Nestor Lorenzo’s main attacking weapons are Jhon Arias (Fluminense) and Luiz Diaz (Liverpool F.C.). Both players are in great shape going into this year’s tournament. In addition, Colombia has a good finisher in forward Rafael Santos Borre (S.C. Internacional). The team’s main obstacle to going far in the 2024 Copa America will be Brazil – a team they would need to beat in the group stage to avoid Uruguay in quarterfinals.

Colombia recently routed the United States 5-1 in a June 8 friendly, and we predict  the U.S. team will advance in this tournament by finishing second in Group C. Thus, Colombia would have a 50-50 chance of facing Uruguay in the semifinals, and if that happens, the Colombians will need to play a perfect game in all three areas of the pitch. Diaz and Rodriguez will need to stay healthy if this team hopes to make it to the final. In any case, our dark horse pick is Colombia -- at +1100 odds to win the 2024 Copa America title are too good not wager $50 to win $600.

The Pick: Colombia +1100

2024 Copa America Top Goalscorer Prediction and Pick

Julian Alvarez has been rumored to be on the move away from Manchester City, and Chelsea, PSG, and Atletico Madrid have publicly expressed interest in the Argentinian forward. It will therefore be very intriguing to watch his performance during this year’s Copa America. Although he gets relatively limited playing time sitting behind Erling Haaland, Alvarez managed  to make 54 appearances for Man City, registering 19 goals and 13 assists across all competitions in the 2023-24 season. Seeing Alvarez represent Argentina alongside Messi is like taking a trip down memory lane, when his play at River Plate was magical. Pep, please let him go.

The Pick: Julian Alvarez +600
