Trailing their playoff series 2-0 and about to make the 15-mile trek to Madison Square Garden for Games 3 and 4 against the New York Rangers, the New Jersey Devils made a bold decision. Devils head coach Lindy Ruff opted to start Akira Schmid in goal, rather than Vitek Vanecek, who had been his No. 1 netminder throughout the regular season and first two postseason games.

That move appeared to pay off, as the Devils went on to win three straight games for a 3-2 series lead heading into Game 6 on Saturday night. This time, however, New Jersey came up empty at The Garden, losing 5-2 to the Rangers, who forced tonight’s seventh and deciding game back at the Prudential Center. New Jersey’s Game 6 loss might have Ruff second-guessing his decision to stick with Schmid in goal.

Best NHL Same-Game Parlay Picks Today for Rangers vs Devils Game 7: 3-Leg Parlay Picks (+500)

Jack Hughes-Goals

New Jersey center Jack Hughes has been quiet over the past two games for the Devils. His performance in Game 5 was acceptable, since the Devils controlled that game from start to finish. Hughes’ effort was there in Game 6, as he fired nine shots on goal. However, the young Devils star couldn’t land one in the back of the net. Expect Hughes to be extremely aggressive in Game 7, because it’s win-or-go home situation. While it’s rare for Hughes to record nine shots on goal without scoring, look for him to get at least one in Game 7.

Leg-1 SGP Pick: Jack Hughes anytime goal (+120)

Chris Kreider-Goals

Winger Chris Kreider has been the glue holding this New York Rangers team together throughout the series and leads all Rangers skaters with six playoff goals. While Kreider dominated Vanecek in Games 1 and 2, he also got to Schmid in Game 3 and then again in Game 6. With everything on the line for Game 7 on Monday night – as one team is about to move on and the other about to go home -- look for Kreider to be heavily involved. He is often at his best when the Rangers’ backs are against the wall.

Leg-2 SGP Pick: Chris Kreider anytime goalscorer (+145)

Puck Line

It’s win-or-go-home tonight, as hockey fans across the world are treated to yet another Game 7 in the opening round of what has been a phenomenal postseason thus far. While the Devils’ switch to goaltender Akira Schmid looked like the right decision for three games, New Jersey’s 5-2 loss in Game 6 deserves to start a conversation about whether the Devils should go back to Vitek Vanecek for Game 7. Either way, the Rangers have the momentum here. I think they will come out victorious in Game 7 and would at least keep it close if they don’t. While a normal puck-line wager should be enough, grabbing the +2.5 doesn’t change our payout that much, and the extra goal covers us if the Rangers are trailing by a goal late in the third period and need to pull their goaltender for an extra attacker.

Leg-3 SGP Pick: New York Rangers +2.5 (-264)
