In another full slate of NHL games, we have very few head-to-heads that have playoff implications, with only the San Jose Sharks and Vegas Golden Knights facing off in a matchup that could impact each other’s chances of making it. Vegas has been struggling of late, but I don’t think anyone should expect the Sharks to catch up to them with under 30 games remaining.

Patrik Laine to score anytime vs New Jersey Devils +100

It’s been a long time since we’ve seen this version of Patrik Laine. An absolute killer with the puck on his stick, he's scored an incredible 13 goals in his last 12 games, with an additional four primary assists.

Laine is still not the complete player that many wanted him to become in order to compare him to Auston Matthews, but I wonder if that fascination with changing him deprived us of the best player he could be over the course of several seasons?

Combine his recent form with the extremely weak goaltending that the Devils have been getting, and there’s no reason to doubt the red-hot Finn will light the lamp at least once.

Montreal Canadiens to defeat Winnipeg Jets +185

The turnaround has been incredible for the NHL’s worst team since they ousted head coach Dominique Ducharme and brought in Hall of Fame player Martin St. Louis to manage the bench. Whether it’s the pure clout he has from his playing career, or his unique approach with players, he’s getting through to people on a level we haven’t seen this year, and the results are a team playing legitimately well.

The top line of Cole Caufield, Josh Anderson, and Nick Suzuki have been dominating to the tune of nearly 60 per cent shares of all shot-based metrics, and almost 65 per cent of expected goals. The Jets meanwhile have been hot and cold - mostly cold -  since Paul Maurice left the job of head coach, and just started backup Eric Comrie over Connor Hellebuyck in a must-win game as they continue to push for an outside shot at the playoffs.

The Jets have much more to play for in this one, but the Canadiens have been playing loose in the best sense of the word, and may catch the Jets thinking too much about winning, instead of doing what it takes to win.

Kyle Connor to score vs Montreal Canadiens -120

One of the best goal scorers in the league, Connor has been scoring at a solid rate over the last month of play, with nine goals in 13 games played. Connor also really seems to love playing against the Montreal Canadiens.

Even in last year’s playoffs where the Canadiens thoroughly trounced the Jets in a four game sweep, Connor was arguably the most consistently dangerous Jet in the series. He scores a ton against the Canadiens in the regular season, and while Montreal has been getting much better goaltending, they haven’t been pitching shutouts every game.

Brad Marchand to score anytime vs Anaheim Ducks +125

It took Marchand a game to get his touch back after serving a six-game suspension handed out solely due to his own stupidity, but against the Sharks in his next game, he ripped home two goals and added an assist, factoring in every Bruins goal in a 3-1 victory.

How ready was Marchand to get back into the game? In just two games since his suspension ended, the man has 15 shots on goal. That’s prime Ovechkin-level shooting gallery stuff.

While Marchand’s decision making in certain moments always bring his judgement into question, two things you can never question about him are his incredible talent for playing the game, and his drive to compete every night. Beware, it’s duck hunting season.
