The Western Conference Wild Card race is the most exciting situation the NHL has going for it down the stretch. The Vegas Golden Knights have seen injuries take them from the presumptive Pacific Division winner to the outside looking in. The Dallas Stars are in the final spot, but have played four fewer games than Vegas. Even St. Louis, in third place in the Central Division, is in trouble after going 3-4-3 over their last 10 games. Vegas, Dallas, Nashville, Los Angeles, Edmonton, and St. Louis are all within five points of each other with 15-19 games to play each. There’s also Vancouver and Winnipeg a few points further back still biting at their heels. It’s going to come down to the wire.

Bo Horvat to score anytime vs Dallas Stars +185

The Vancouver Canucks have an extremely thin chance at qualifying for the playoffs this year, but you have to give the team and coaching staff credit for rebounding from an abysmal start to the year to get where they are now.

They have been streaky from a scoring perspective, and while J.T. Miller has been hot for what seems like forever, the hottest scorer on the roster right now is captain Bo Horvat. Two off his career high of 27 goals, Horvat is in the midst of his fifth 20-goal season, and he had 19 in 56 games last year.

Horvat has scored in three straight, and has eight goals in his last nine games. In a battle against a team their fighting for a playoff position, expect the captain to lead by example.

Under 6 total goals in Vegas Golden Knights vs Chicago Blackhawks +100

With so many players out of the lineup for the Golden Knights, they need to play well in tight games, and against a team like the Chicago Blackhawks, they really can’t afford to be messing around and leaving points on the table.

Vegas made a big statement on Thursday against the Nashville Predators that they’re not giving up in their fight for a playoff spot, with even the previously traded Evgenii Dadonov factoring in the scoring, after his move to Anaheim was rescinded due to the Golden Knights not abiding by his No Trade Clause.

Expect a tighter game on Saturday against a Blackhawks team that stole a point from the Los Angeles Kings in their previous game.

Montreal Canadiens and Toronto Maple Leafs to go to overtime +400

For years and years, the Montreal Canadiens and Toronto Maple Leafs have seen a bunch of their games go into overtime. That includes twice last season during the first round of the playoffs when the Canadiens upset the Leafs in seven games.

This year however, each team has just a regulation win over the other. The Maple Leafs didn’t have their best showing in the last matchup between them, while the Canadiens have been battling hard to reclaim some control over their season. Still, they are now depleted after the trade deadline, and the Leafs boosted by Mark Giordano and Colin Blackwell.

Regardless, these teams always test each other, and I think this one will need extra time.

Edmonton Oilers to defeat Calgary Flames +140

The battle of Alberta hasn’t had much at stake for a very long time, but suddenly, these two teams have a real chance of facing each other in the playoffs. On balance, the Calgary Flames are simply a much better team. They’re deep at every position, have arguably the best coaching in the game, and have a quality goaltender in Jacob Markstrom.

The Oilers have no reliable goaltender in the NHL right now - their best goalie might be Stuart Skinner, currently playing in the AHL for the Bakersfield Condors. While the Oilers have been sort of all over the place this season, they’ve been much more consistently good under new head coach Jay Woodcroft, and are winning without the goaltending being great.

With the Flames on the second half of a back-to-back, the Oilers have a chance to send a message heading into the playoffs, that they’re not a team to be taken lightly. Connor McDavid is on an eight-game point streak, with 16 points over that time, and expect him to be the focal point as always.
