We’re heading towards the business end of the college football season now, and just six teams remain undefeated with the Week 9 slate incoming. Clemson beat Syracuse at the weekend to keep their streak alive, and are now chasing Georgia, Ohio State, Tennessee and Michigan for a top-four rank.

The Buckeyes face Penn State at the weekend, while Georgia meets the Florida Gators for their annual rivalry in Jacksonville. Tennessee plays host to the Kentucky Wildcats in a fiery SEC match up, and it’s Michigan facing Michigan State at the Big House.

TCU heads to West Virginia with an unbeaten record to protect. The Horned Frogs are currently ranked No. 7 behind the other five unbeaten teams, and will be aiming to prove to the rest of the country why they should be right there in the conversation.

Ohio State @ Penn State Odds, Spread, Over/Under, Moneyline - College Football Odds Week 9

Moneyline: Ohio State Buckeyes -745, Penn State Nittany Lions +500
Spread: Ohio State -15.5, Penn State +15.5
Total: Over/Under 61

The Nittany Lions host the Ohio State Buckeyes having just recorded their best win of the season. Penn State beat Minnesota 45-17 in front of the whiteout crowd at Beaver Stadium last Saturday night, giving them all the momentum they need to face the second-best team in the nation.

The Buckeyes sputtered a little against Iowa, with CJ Stroud and the offense not performing in the way we’re used to them performing so far this season. Despite not playing their best game, they still walked past Iowa without any real threat at all, and now head into Saturday afternoon's game as a 15.5-point favorite on the road.

Ohio State vs Penn State Predictions and Picks

Sean Clifford had a bad day against Michigan a couple of weekends ago but bounced back in the Minnesota game with a 74.2 per cent completion rate, 295 passing yards, four touchdowns and just one interception. That game will give him confidence and the support of the home crowd will energize the Nittany Lions in what will be their biggest game of the season.

It may mean Penn State hangs around with the Buckeyes for the first few drives, getting the game off to a 14-14 start midway through the second quarter. Eventually, however, the Buckeyes defense is going to make a play or two that causes a turnover or forces a punt, and that’s when CJ Stroud and the offense put the game out of reach.

It’s a very difficult offense to slow down for four quarters, and that’s why I like the Buckeyes against the spread.

The Pick: Ohio State Buckeyes -15.5 (-110)

Penn State gave up 41 against Michigan on the road just two weekends back, but this is a home game and I hope Penn State might have learned a couple of lessons from that ugly defeat. I see two scenarios for the game.

Penn State could hold onto the football and drive down the field, taking time off the clock and keeping the football away from CJ Stroud for as long as possible. Or, they have to punt too many times, give the football back to the Buckeyes offense too many times, and ultimately let the game get away from them.

In both scenarios, I like the under. If Penn State is going to win this game they need to limit opportunities for the Buckeyes and use up as much time as possible.

The Pick: Under 61 Points (-110)

College Football Schedule Week 9 – Game information - No. 20 Cincinnati Bearcats @ UCF Knights

Cincinnati vs UCF Odds, Spread, Over/Under, Moneyline - College Football Odds Week 9

Moneyline: Cincinnati Bearcats -110, UCF Knights -110
Spread: Cincinnati +1, UCF -1
Total: Over/Under 56 Points

UCF will host the No. 20-ranked Cincinnati Bearcats on Saturday after a loss to East Carolina this past week. The loss put UCF at 5-2 on the season but they’re still very much a contender to take down their ranked opponent this weekend.

UCF were poor offensively against ECU with quarterback John Rhys Plumlee throwing three interceptions alongside an afternoon of struggles in the run game. It wasn’t a performance typical of the Knights offensive unit and over correcting this week before facing Cincinnati could work heavily in their favor.

The Bearcats might be 6-1 but their performances have been lackluster in multiple victories now. Cincinnati are beating teams they should be beating but failing to cover spreads and making things harder than they should be on themselves. UCF is a better team than SMU or USF, both of which kept it nail-bitingly close against the Bearcats in recent weeks.

Cincinnati Bearcats vs UCF Knights Predictions and Picks

These are two teams capable of scoring. The Knights, in particular, rank No. 6 in the country in total offense and, despite John Rhys Plumlee’s poor outing last weekend, he’s got the offense ticking. While UCF only scored 13 points last week, they’ve still averaged just over 41 points in their last three games.

Cincinnati is retooling on defense after losing their entire secondary and then some to the NFL Draft last season. They don’t have the same stopping power they did during the 2021 season and are leaking points as a result. I like this one for a high-scoring affair ending in a shootout in the fourth quarter.

The Pick: Over 56 Points (-110)

This game is basically a coin flip according to the oddsmakers but I prefer the Knights on their own home turf. UCF can really get rolling when the offense is on the same page, and their convincing 41-19 win over SMU looked a lot better than the Bearcats scraping by the same team by 2 points.

I’ll take the Knights moneyline, upsetting the ranked opponent at home.

The Pick: UCF Knights Moneyline (-120)

College Football Schedule Week 9 – Game information - No. 19 Kentucky Wildcats @ No. 3 Tennessee Volunteers

College Football Season 2022 Game
Kentucky Wildcats vs Tennessee Volunteers
Date: 22 October 2022
Time: 7:00 pm EST
Venue: Neyland Stadium - Knoxville, Tennessee
TV Channel: ESPN
Live Stream: Fubo TV
Live Radio: WIVK-FM

Kentucky Wildcats @ Tennessee Volunteers Odds, Spread, Over/Under, Moneyline - College Football Odds Week 9

Moneyline: Kentucky Wildcats +365, Tennessee Volunteers -495
Spread: Kentucky +12.5, -12.5
Total: Over/Under 63.5

The Tennessee Volunteers have scored 117 points in their last two games combined. One of those teams might be TN Martin, but the other was Alabama. The Vols 52-point total against ‘Bama was the largest score a Nick Saban Alabama team has ever suffered, and there seemed to be no hangover from that successful outing as Hendon Hooker and the Vols racked up another 65 points in Saturday's game against TN Martin.

Kentucky has been efficient offensively, with Will Levis completing 69.5 per cent of his passes through the season's first seven games. The offense is good but it’s not 40-50 points good. Kentucky will need their defense to slow Hendon Hooker and the Vols down if they want to have any shot at winning this game. The Wildcats will take a lot of confidence from the Mississippi State game, allowing just 22 rushing yards and forcing a crucial turnover.

Kentucky vs Tennessee Predictions and Picks

This is an extremely tough environment for the Wildcats to go into and attempt to spoil the party. The Volunteers are going to fill Neyland Stadium to the very last seat as they anticipate their eighth straight win. Tennessee are going to score a good amount of points with the crowd behind them and the momentum of their current season in their corner.

The question is whether Kentucky can shut them out on a couple of very important drives in order to hold the Vols' scoring and keep them within a reachable distance. I think the answer is no on this occasion.

The Pick: Tennessee Volunteers -12.5 (-110)

The points total is a high one but let’s keep in mind the Volunteers victory over Alabama was a 101-point game. Will Levis might not be Bryce Young, but he’s a very talented quarterback who’s more than capable of fighting it out in a hostile road game.

Senior running back Chris Rodriguez Jr is also expected to play a key role for the Wildcats, and he’s coming into the game following a 197-yard, three-touchdown outing on Saturday against Mississippi State.

The Vols might score 40, but I’m willing to back the Wildcats to get 20+, and that gets me close enough to the over to be willing to back it comfortably.

The Pick: Over 63.5 Points (-115)
