Best NBA Bets Thursday 12/29: Odds, Picks and Predictions

Cavaliers vs Pacers Odds, Spread, Moneyline, Over/Under - NBA Betting Lines 12/29Moneyline: Cleveland Cavaliers (-210), Indiana Pacers (+175)
Spread: Cleveland Cavaliers -5.5, Indiana Pacers +5.5
Total: Over/Under 223.5 points

Cavaliers vs Pacers Predictions and Pick

These two teams met about two weeks ago when the Cavaliers erased an 11-point deficit that built up at the end of the third quarter. The Cavs held the Pacers to 18 points in the fourth quarter and outscored them 35-18 to hold off Indiana on their home court, winning 118-112. Donovan Mitchell had his way with the Pacers, going for 41 points on eight three-pointers, with three of them coming in the fourth quarter.

Tyrese Hailburton is questionable for the Pacers with a knee bruise for Thursday night’s rematch and, if he can’t go, this game will not be a repeat of their first matchup. Haliburton scored 17 points to go with 14 assists when they met two weeks ago and will have to have similar numbers in this one if they want to come away with the win.

The Pacers are the best team in transition as they lead the NBA in fastbreak points per game. While the Cavaliers have the best defense in the NBA, their transition defense ranks middle of the road. The Pacers outscored the Cavaliers 20-9 in fastbreak points in their last matchup, but when the Cavaliers shut them down in the fourth quarter, they didn’t allow one transition basket.

If the Cavaliers limit the Pacers transition opportunities and force the Pacers to play out of their halfcourt offense, the fourth quarter of their last matchup will be how this game looks for four quarters.

Cavaliers get it done on the road and do so in a statement win.

The Pick: Cleveland Cavaliers -5.5 (-110)

Clippers vs Celtics Odds, Spread, Moneyline, Over/Under - NBA Betting Lines 12/29

Moneyline: Los Angeles Clippers (+195), Boston Celtics (-240)
Spread: Los Angeles Clippers +5.5, Boston Celtics -5.5
Total: Over/Under 226.5 points

Clippers vs Celtics Predictions

The Clippers are back to full strength as all of their players have used up their vacation time for the rest of the year. They’ll now continue their road trip into Boston where they’ll face the best team in the NBA.

While the Celtics sit at 25-10 and are riding a three-game winning streak, they’re trending downwards as they’re 5-5 in their last 10 games, with one of those five losses coming against this same Clippers team.

That’s why this spread truly confuses me here. Yes, it's at home where the Celtics are 14-5, but these two teams played two weeks ago in Los Angeles where the Clippers won by 20. Paul George and Kawhi Leonard went for 26 points and 25 points in their 113-93 win and completely shut Boston down defensively.

Not only do I think the Clippers will cover the spread in this one but with Leonard, George and a fully healthy team, the Clippers will play spoiler yet again as they’ll win this game outright.

The Pick: Los Angeles Clippers ML (+195)

Grizzlies vs Raptors Odds, Spread, Moneyline, Over/Under - NBA Betting Lines 12/29

Moneyline: Memphis Grizzlies (-140), Toronto Raptors (+120)
Spread: Memphis Grizzlies -2.5, Golden State Warriors +2.5
Total: Over/Under 224.5 points

Grizzlies vs Raptors Predictions and Pick

The Memphis Grizzlies were one of the hottest teams in basketball but recently have slipped as they’re 1-4 in their last five games. After getting stunned by the Steph Curry-less Warriors on Christmas day and then run over by the Phoenix Suns, they’ll travel to Toronto with one thing on their mind: get a victory.

As for the Raptors, their season hasn’t gone as planned as they’re four games below .500 at 15-19 and have yet to catch stride this year.

Point God Ja Morant has been playing at an MVP level, but his great supporting cast has played at a pedestrian level as of late, especially on the defensive end. The Grizzlies, who are the 10th-ranked defense in the league, have allowed 123 points and 125 points in their last two games and are just getting exposed. They’ll now draw a Raptors team that ranks 12th in the league in offensive efficiency this year.

While defense has to be their focal point in this game, getting production from other players outside of Morant is key as well. That will be another tough task for this Grizzlies team as the Raptors are the seventh-best defensive team in the NBA.

There are some key factors and stats that definitely favor Toronto in this one, but the Grizzlies have their backs against the wall and will prevail. Morant’s elite talent just really opens up the game for his teammates and, while they’re having some recent struggles, Dillon Brooks and Jaren Jackson’s poor shooting won’t continue. Desmond Bane should also find his stride in his fourth game back from a toe injury.

The Grizzlies get the bounce-back road win and Morant will be running through the six with his woes.

The Pick: Memphis Grizzlies ML (-140)
